Lone Ranger history....?

Post by AJMD429 »

I'd never heard who the story might be based on until I read this - https://www.history.com/news/bass-reeve ... -black-man.

Of course these days everyone is so busy scrambling to virtue-signal their political-correctness, you can't trust 'facts', it is an interesting story, and sounds like this ranger was one BAMF (or perhaps BABMF).

Bass Reeves sounds like he was a remarkable fellow.

However, this single line in summary inclines me to question the veracity of Mr. Burton's work.

"... the very government that had failed to protect his freedom in the first place... "

It should more truthfully read "... the government that by shedding of blood, privation, and civil war managed to cement his freedom in law..."

:|
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Here in Florida there were two Seminole wars. The biggest bone of contention that the Seminoles adopted many run away slaves into their tribe and never would surrender them back to the slave owners. The Seminoles were also the only tribe that never signed a treaty with the United States Gov't.
