Pleasant Surprise

Post by NonPCnraRN »

Just received my new Super Blackhawk with 4 5/8" barrel. I like the smaller gripframe and round triggerguard vs the longer gripframe and squared triggerguard of the 7.5" model. Now for the surprise...... the safety billboard is on the underside of the barrel and barely visible. I will have to check the barrel on the 7.5" model and hopefully it is the same way. I plan on putting a Birds Head grip on this gun so I can use the smaller gripframe for the 7.5 incher if I get it. Otherwise I will put it on the Birds Head Vaquero that donated the gripframe. That way I will have a 3.75" Sheriff's model Vaquero and a regular Birds Head Vaquero.

Can you post a photo? Or even link a photo to one just like yours? That would really help, since I have a difficult time finding revolvers with grips that work well for me - Thanks!

Slick: Here's a link to the Ruger site. It shows the difference in grip size between the 4 5/8" and 5 1/2" vs the 7.5" and 10" models. The 2 longer barrel lengths have a longer grip and square backed trigger guard. The 2 shorter barreled models have the Blackhawk grip frame.

Here's a link to a Birds Head Vaquero which share the same cylinder frame size as the Blackhawk/Super Blackhawk. Scroll down to see pics of the Birds Head grip on a 4 5/8" barreled gun.

Update.......Just put money down on 7.5" SBH and the billboard is on the underside of that barrel too! I'd post pics but you can see them on the Ruger website. Heck of it is I just picked up the 4 5/8" SBH and in Kalipornia you are limited to one handgun a month.

All current manufacture single action Rugers have moved the billboard to the bottom of the barrel and in a smaller print, too (IIRC). Happened about a year ago, I think. A nice change of pace, in my opinion. Saves me the work of filing the warning label off!
