Hmmmmm
Seems something new has entered my accumulation
A Ravin R-9 that’s slightly used . Not the fastest Ravin but still clocked at 390 FPS .

That should be enough for most things.

Re: Hmmmmm
Well it's only 390 FPS there other one is 420 FPS . I say that tongue in cheek so to speak but a new one thats 420 is in the 2G+ neighborhood . So for what little archery I'll do anymore this thing is plenty for what I'll need .
Still be nice if I had a piece of marsh on the Eastern Shore of Maryland for Sika deer

Re: Hmmmmm
I started with a Parker crossbow, axle holes in the cams were oblong in short order. It was slow, most deer hit in the spine from ducking the string. Upgraded to an Excalibur with 240 lbs of limbs to cock. A lot faster and no cams to wear out!

Re: Hmmmmm
I have several friends that would rather shoot coyotes then deer or game birds , I’ve kinda gotten to the point of it don’t taste good I don’t usually mess with it . With one exception ! I like shooting Canada Geese and they’re not the most palatable thing I ever cooked . Now I will shoot coyotes but it’s by opportunity only I don’t make a point of chasing them .

Re: Hmmmmm
Parker vertical bows were or are still made about 60 miles from me . I dunno if they made the crossbows there or not .

Coyotes is why I have a Ruger M77 All Weather in .22 Hornet. Wish it wasn’t $40+ for a box of rounds...
Suppose I could use the .308 but man I can’t stand that rifle.

A set of hornet dies, box of Hornady Vmax, a pound of IMR 4227( MY GUN LOVES IT) and you can shoot a lot of yotes!

Re: Hmmmmm
I acclimated myself some in the house with the Ravin today . Looked at the owner’s manual then watched a bunch of Ravin YouTube videos . The cocking , setting the bolt , removing the bolt and decocking went smoothly .

Re: Hmmmmm
I wanna get a pair of they call them dampeners I call them string silencers for the thing as well as some of what Ravin sells for the cables and string . I also need to get a target for crossbows so it’ll stop the bolts those thing are way to expensive to loose from shooting thru stuff .

Re: Hmmmmm
Shot the Ravin some Thursday and again I forgot to take the Chrony . Shot it at 20 yards Rested on a rickety card table . Not perfect but I see no issue with killing with this thing inside a reasonable 30 or so yards .

Re: Hmmmmm
I have been eyeballing the ravins, have a ten point and I have to shoot at the different circles on target or will hit the bolt already in there. I was shocked at the accuracy of the thing. I like the ravins as they are a bit narrower than even the ten point and more balanced, maybe little lighter.

It is satisfying to do a Robin Hood, UNTIL you realize you have just ruined 2 bolts.

Thanks ! But what on earth makes you think coyote could even possibly taste palatable

Re: Hmmmmm
This Ravin is pretty neat so far ! Earlier I had watched Scorypd crossbows , they’re making one now that supposedly does 480 FPS . Shouldn’t be to long before they have a crossbow that velocity wise will almost equal my sub sonic 308 220 grain loads .Marlin32 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 7:52 pm I have been eyeballing the ravins, have a ten point and I have to shoot at the different circles on target or will hit the bolt already in there. Re: Hmmmmm
That is true, and remarkable velocity and accuracy these tools have, I only use mine for turkey, right now don't have time to deer hunt with it, and would not be afraid in the least to use it on elk. I have garnered a lot of respect for these new crossbows.
Its like a rifle, you need to do homework on what broadhead for what game/conditions, much like a rifle and its bullet.

Re: Hmmmmm
With vertical bows I never used anything but Muzzy four blade 90’s and 115’s . I’ll most likely eventually use some sort of Muzzy fixed broadheads in this thing . But it came with about a dozen nice new Rage Hypodermic mechanical broadheads so I guess I’ll give them a try in the 2019 season . Might try them at a place we have damage control permits before deer season starts .Marlin32 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 10:51 am That is true, and remarkable velocity and accuracy these tools have, I only use mine for turkey, right now don't have time to deer hunt with it, and would not be afraid in the least to use it on elk. Re: Hmmmmm
Shot my Ravin some more yesterday and did what I should have done the first time . I remounted the scope to suit me and went thru the sight in process per what Ravin says . After that from a seated rest a baseball sized target at 50 yards is in trouble .
