1" at 1000- did I read that right?
Seems a new world record has been set!
A 1,068" 5 shot group was recently scored using a 6mmBR Ackley Improved!
( I couldn't get the link to copy) GunsAmerica sent the email about it.
Dont care who ya are that's impressive!

There must have been a lot of luck involved. Not taking away from the shooter's skill, but any change of wind at that distance could have made that group open up. A group of basically 1 inch for 5 shots at 1,000 yards would need one of those days when everything comes together in perfect unison. I don't have the skill to do it. Back when I was in the Army, I never missed the 1,100 meter half torso target with the M60. I shot a 6 round burst at it each time. Whether I hit it with only 1 bullet or more was never known. Whether I could have hit it with a rifle will always remain an unknown. That shooter keeping 5 in about an inch at 1,000 yards does have a ton of skill. Lots of difference in 1 inch versus a half torso.

The range record at a 500 yard range near me was held by a maker of long range rifles; the group was around .5 inch.
same guy shot a baboon in Africa at around 900 yards. He also taught long range shooting and hunting.
IIRC, he is ex- military.
Some tell me that all it takes is the right rifle, ammo, and LOTS of practice.

I have an old (2010) Nightforce scope catalogue that shows a group of 2.815" at 1000 yds. Best 5 of those probably would have been around the 1" mark.
Wasn't just shooting for group but for score; 100-4x.
I'm sure that a better record has been set by now.

The article showed the target, all 5 in the X ring! From what it said the conditions were about perfect, no mirage or wind.
I'm not a follower of 1000 yard, last I knew were groups of around 5".

The PA 1000 yd club record about 25 years ago was just over 4". And that is some shootin !
The 100 yd record was set back in the 70's and it is 5 shots in .009" center to center shot with a .222 .

That geometrically equates to 0.1" at 100 yards...!
Even with a 1000-yard long windproof enclosure that is IMPRESSIVE...!
"...The 100 yd record was set back in the 70's and it is 5 shots in .009" center to center shot with a .222 ...."
Amazing that they can even measure a bullet-punched paper target that accurately and reproducibly...!

The previous 5-shot, 1000-yard IBS record is 1.397″ (50 score) by Tom Sarver in 2007. (The NBRSA 1000-Yard 5-shot LG record is 1.473″ by Bill Schrader in 2002.)
Slow is just slow.

I really enjoyed that article, and thank gosh they printed a detailed description of his rifle and load. My thought is that bullets and barrels just keep getting better. Throw in a brief window of perfect conditions, and bingo.
