Value straight grip 336 in 30-30

Post by fordwannabe »

Hello all, I was accosted the other day, and being such a small and weak individual (6'1" 300#) I was thrown to the floor, arm pulled behind my back and FORCED to bring home a Marlin 336 (circa 1972 I think, at work right now) with a straight grip and a 20 inch barrel, full mag. I know I dont see many straight grip 336's so is there any added value for a straight grip over a pistol grip? Doesnt really matter for what I paid but, just wondering, in case it needs to go in the trade pile, when the right Model 1893 in 32-40 comes along.
Thank you for your replies.

.

It sounds like you got yerself a Model 336T (Texan), (made with a 20" barrel optional only between 1965-71) - the other Texans barrel option for 1954-83 Texan's was an 18-1/2" bbl.

The straight-gripped Marlin 336 Texans are usually worth only a small premium ($50 or so) over a PG-stocked Model 336 in .30-30 - but will usually sell a LOT faster than a Pg-stocked example in like condition.

Marlin also made a model the TK. It was a Texan with a half mag. Marlin made it for KMart for a couple of years. I have a friend that has a TK.
