I remember a discussion a couple years ago now where this one guy insisted that bear spray was a cure-all for this kind of stuff.

I agree Bear Spray would not have worked as intended.... dang the bear would have thought someone just seasoned this poor guy making him taste spicy.

That's the exact reason I carry a sidearm when I'm in critter country. And, it's a big enough caliber to do the job.

BC is located in Canada. Handguns are outlawed in Canada.

Seems like a rifle would be too difficult to handle in this situation. Why not pepper spray and prayer? Sawed off shotgun would be helpful but same category as handgun in BC.

This big blackie was photographed near a Christian Summer Camp in Pocono Mts of eastern Pennsylvania last summer. The only weapon I carried was Schrade LB7 lockback knife in a belt sheath. I wasn't fearful at the time, but after seeing this fellow's wounds I'm feeling a little anxiety.

i'll take my puny .357 mag handgun, loaded with 180 gr. hard cast, against the best pepper spray stuff that they make. anytime!

Kirk will probably back me up on this, Kirk? But handguns can be had for use in the western territories for just this reason. But I believe Kirk takes his Schofield in 44 russian when he goes camping.

The guy was surely in God's hands.
