KirkD's recent post of his beautiful early casecolored 45-70 1886 reminded me to again post some Winchester eye candy as well.
Below is a somewhat later rifle with a blued frame..... it letters to June of 1903.....but it is a pretty scarce example. This one is a 45-90 with a hard to find special order 30", 4 inches longer than standard, barrel. The bore still remains excellent and should prove to be a fine shooter. The factory letter on this rifle also mentions the Lyman tang and front sights that are still with the rifle some 114 years later. Most times, sights were not included in the original factory documentation. With the longer sight radius and special sights, the original owner wanted a precision shooter.
Special order 30" barreled 1886's make up only a bit over 1% of total production of the Model 1886 as a whole. Longer than 30" barrels are even more scarce.
This particular rifle apparently also has some western provenance that I am currently researching and verifying. An interesting rifle all told.
A beauty! And with a special order length barrel as well. If I recall correctly, Starline makes 45-90 brass, if not Captech. I'll look forward to a range report when it works out to shoot that classic rifle. You are very fortunate to have the original, factory installed tang sight. Mine has a period 1886 Lyman tang sight as well, but it was not installed at the factory. I know, because I purchased it for a hefty sum from another collector.

Look here guys...I happen to know Mr. 3855.....(cyberly) and I'm the first to tell you he is showing us one of his low end 1886's. I don't believe a finer collection of 1886's exist beyond the Cody museum.
