The BenchRest boys say the three B's are the basics of accuracy , barrel,bullet and bedding. Everything else comes last.

With cameras, when the lens gets big enough, the mount is more stable if it attaches to the lens vs the camera body; maybe the same applies to gun barrels and receivers. Makes sense, actually...

Almost all Benchrest rail guns have the receiver completely free floating and the barrel is clamped to the rail system.
