Lyman 429215 HP

Post by 6pt-sika »

Paid a bit to much , but I got a Lyman 429215 HP mold . Already have a two cavity 429215 and 429244 as well as a 429244 HP . I kinda like the smaller HP of these molds over the bigger HP like on the 429640 Devistator or the big pin in the NOE molds . Hopefully this one will work relatively well in my 44 MAG Contender and perhaps 444 rifle . Already had success on deer in the 444 using the other three molds mentioned so certainly shouldn't be any reason this one won't do also 👍🏻 https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw ... PM/$_3.JPG

You'll be able to make nice deer-getters from those flat-points, for sure... 8)

How do you think the hollow point ones will perform....? Outside of factory loaded 'Silvertips' in my 44 Special, I've only shot jacketed hollowpoints.

I was also wondering about the HP performance....
I was told many moons ago that if you wanted an expanding cast bullet to put a piece of paper between the mould blocks in the nose before casting. This created a void allowing the bullet to fracture on impact. Has anyone heard/done this? I've done it but never tried this on game.

I've already killed deer with the Lyman 429244 HP and it has the same HP just 30 or so more grains of bullet weight . So it's my assumption that this one "should" do about the same .

Never heard that one , I'd be more inclined to think the hot lead would burn the paper . But who knows until they try .

Cast 50 of the 429215HP of straight air cooled WW's and 25 more of 50/50 WW/Lino . Also cast two dozen of the RCBS 27-150 of 50/50 WW/Lino air cooled and 24 more water quenched . Did the same with the Lee 277-135 .

Cast some more of the Lyman 429215 HP and a bunch more of the Castboolits group buy 434-207GC .

I also caved and got myself a Ruger 44 MAG revolver . And older Ruger Redhawk blued no less and it comes with what appears to be a very decent Leupold 2x . I've had a couple stainless Redhawks just like this one before in 44 MAG as well as a pair of Super Redhawks in 480 Ruger . This will be my first blued Ruger Redhawk .

I have poured with paper between the mould blocks, the paper doesn't burn as you would think, I've just never tried it on game.

Nice, I've always wanted a Redhawk in 44. Especially with a 5" barrel.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!
