High quality Lever gun scabbards?
Not so easy to find from what I have seen lately.
A high quality lever gun Saddle scabbard?
Some time back we got into a discussion on saddle scabbards. I have a hundred year old Boyt and a Ray Holes that is 50 years old. Both are made from Herman Oak skirting leather and either could easily be considered the "gold standard" of lever gun scabbards. Except for the fact the Ray Holes is a copy of the Boyt
I am sure Ray Holes shop will still make you a decent scabbard but like the Colt Custom Shop it is going to be awhile and likely the price is going to be higher than you expected.
Met a saddle maker and honest old cowboy a year ago that I have become friends with. He's also a gunman who knows what "professional quality" leather is. I asked him to make me up to new scabbards for my own adventures. But not the norm. Had him take the old Boyt scabbard home and make me scabbards for my '86 carbine with a 22" barrel and another for my 20" Model '92. Don't own a '94 and the '92 is a might smaller anyway. The '86 a good bit bigger. I'd rather have two that actually fit the rifles correctly and go under my leg easily. Just as importantly sewn up by someone with some serious leather working skills.
Nothing fancy, dbl riveted strap loops, 48" straps and plain old skirting leather. Fully welted seam. These two should easily go another 100 years.

Nice looking and business like scabbards, I have a really cheap Mexican scabbard that is only fit for a BB gun.
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.

Some great looking work by several makers in the above links!
I'm certainly not a good enough leather bender to sell what I produce but if I ever get back to a Tandy store I'm going to make my own. Scabbards aren't hard at all to pattern out. Sure will take a long time to stick up by and though. They'll be plenty sturdy and mine will be used so they'll be covered in scratches before long.

Yep some nice leather being shown. I found a decent saddle scabbard that one would want to use on a horse is dang hard to find let alone get made. My Miles City/Boyd scabbard for a '86 carbine obviously came well worn out of Grizzly country in Montana.
Takes more than a bit of stitching to sew in a welt and get a decent pattern that actually fits the gun. Likely most everything you can buy store bought these days is for a '94 of one length or another, but most likely a 20" If you got anything else ya got what ya got! Took Tom just a couple of weeks to get these made up and delivered this winter. I like good leather. Don't carry my SAAs in an over size floppy sock either
Tom works out of Jordan Valley, OR. They don't tolerate shirkers in that part of the country for leather work

Re: High quality Lever gun scabbards?
I've got 3, one made in Mexico is full basket weave and shearling lined... I bought it down across the border and found the quality very good. The oldest is by one of old time saddle makers in CA, still in great shape, and the 3rd, the one I probably use the most, is from El Paso Saddlery. It's probably the "best" of the three, even though it's a little lighter in weight.
