Winchester lever rifle reproduction

Post by Naphtali »

Is there manufactured currently a reproduction of Winchester 1886, Model 71, or 1895 lever rifle in stainless steel?

Good morning
Go to Buds Gun shop and do a search at the web site. I think he must list neat 100% of the common manufacturers production list.

Yep; both Rifle and Carbine versions of the 1889 are "pretty darned close" to the 1886, but only chambered in modern cartridges (500 S&W, 460 S&W, 454 Casull at present):

They are ALL stainless steel, and you can get them in 'plain stainless' or the 'black' ones have a nitride finish to the stainless that's really nice.

Or Color Case-Hardening finish if you like

Here's my Carbine in 500 S&W next to my 1894 Marlin 44 Mag:

Mine only has the 'utility' grade Walnut...but it seems plenty fancy to me.

Those are nice looking levers, I'd be hard pressed to choose one!
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

fixed that for you... the 1885 is a single shot.

In answer to the OP's question... Not at the present time. Rossi has made stainless versions of the 1892... Uberti has made copies of the 1866 & 1873 with barrels "in the white", (which is actually some kinda finish). I do not recall ever seeing stainless versions of either the mdl 71 or Winchester 1895; now, Marlin's 1895 has been available in stainless.

LOL - I should have caught that - I was gonna type/explain the '1889' moniker comes from the fact that (according to the manufacturer) "...the design has elements of the 1886 and 1892, so we split the difference, and call ours the 1889, or "89"....

Those Big Horn Armory rifles and carbines are beautiful. This is probably a rumor but I heard they may also be offering these with straight grip stocks. Anyone else hear that? On a different note that Pedersoli 444 Marlin would be interesting.

Yeah - my son wants me to put a Scout Scope Mount on mine....but there's no way I want to do that.

It came with excellent aperture sights, although I replaced the front wide blade with a small 'gold-bead' type like Marlins come with.

My eyes have really gone tits up of late. Combination of diabetes, and old age. :D They say I'm getting Cadillacs, sure hope their gold ones.... I put a Speed Dot on the 1022 takedown, and I really don't want to look back. How nice!

It was always my understanding that the Big Horn Armory model 1889 was called the 1889 because it's action size was proportionately right in between the Browning designed model 1886 and model 1892 Winchesters so a happy medium between the two. I really like the 1889 action itself but prefer a straight grip and longer barrel at least 22".

^^^ You're right about that Ji. I had that same query and IIRC it was Buck Elliot who confirmed it.

It's a rifle with the sight picture of a revolver held at arms length. I'd be curious to see how that comes onto target ... with the far forward short radius?

FYI, there are stainless steel Rossi Model 92s also. I have one of their SRC's (pre bolt safety) in 44-40. Strikingly pretty carbine. Not sure if these (carbines) or rifles are still offered. Maybe the Italian made 92s come in stainless?
