What are these things used for?
Found a few hulls out at the range the other day, had never seen any before. Wonder what practical use for them. Spendy little devils. http://www.targetsportsusa.com/aguila-m ... 58961.aspx

Re: What are these things used for?
Interesting. I'm going to go with a light round in the common large gauge to help acclimate kids or new shooters? For those unable to roll their own loads?

Re: What are these things used for?
They make a buckshot version that's made the double the amount of rounds you have onboard without significantly affecting terminal performance at typical ranges. You can fit about 8 in a 5 shot tube, etc.

There is also a mini slug on the market.
Never used them.

Re: What are these things used for?
I can't put up a 12 gauge slug, or mag buckshot to my shoulder probably ever again. Shoulder is too messed up. I might try some of these for my SD loads, and stick to my 410, and 20 SxS hammer gun if I hunt.
I wonder if they can be reloaded?

I believe some cowboy action shooters are using them.

Re: What are these things used for?
Those things are a hoot! I've gone through a bunch of them in a little 18" barreled H&R. I haven't shot any critters with them but they're killers on pop cans!
They won't cycle in any of my pumps but I've heard that they will work in some Mossbergs.

Re: What are these things used for?
Reckon those would be real handy up around my hen house at nite. I live in the woods BUT I am in side the city limits. My hens are legal but me shooting to protect them ain't. I might have to find some of these for my old Mossberg 500 police gun, it's an eight shot so I reckon it would hold a bunch of them things.

That's the goal I think...MrMurphy wrote:They make a buckshot version that's made the double the amount of rounds you have onboard without significantly affecting terminal performance at typical ranges. You can fit about 8 in a 5 shot tube, etc.

I'd worry about feeding/cycling issues though.

Re: What are these things used for?
Right. I remember these were in use over 10 years ago. Some clubs had targets that you only had to hit and not knock down and these shorties worked well enough for that.Griff wrote:I believe some cowboy action shooters are using them.
Another reason I quit cowboy action. Short shotgun shells, 38 spl handguns with 2.5 of Bullseye and a 125 grain bullet, rifles chambered for the 32 h&r.....it all got turned into a speed event with no emphasis on skill or the ability to use guns with recoil.----6

My Momma uses them for pest control in the sxs she keeps by the bed. 2 legged of course.

Re: What are these things used for?
Not that I would know, but they look like they would work really well in 12ga "flare gun" inserts...

The Winchester 1300 is the only repeater that will reliably cycle them without modification.

Re: What are these things used for?
we use them for grouse and ptarmigan....as we often have close shots that don't need the big loads.
especially handy when carrying a combo gun or drilling.
step-son was hunting caribou with a Baikal 6.5 x 55 over 12 ga. I gave him 6 of these to carry in coat pocket.....got six ptarmigan with 6 shots, the only game any of us shot on that trip.

Re: What are these things used for?
IIRC; I read somewhere a while back (can't get any more ambiguous than that) that initially these were marketed to police depts. More in the magazine and no need for "longer" range of typical buckshot rounds...

Re: What are these things used for?
I'd have to see how they worked in an 870 or Mossy 500, but I'd sure liked them when I was a Prison Guard...mikld wrote:IIRC; I read somewhere a while back (can't get any more ambiguous than that) that initially these were marketed to police depts. Re: What are these things used for?
I believe they were originally developed for a police style shotgun made in Turkey called the "Poseidon" which held a large number or rounds. It could only use these size shells and was not popular.
I use then in a loose sxs I am afraid to shoot anything else in. They really do have very light recoil. Almost like a .410 with a better pattern.
I would also use them in a better sxs for hunting small game at short range, since you can carry more in your pocket.

Re: What are these things used for?
They've been around for years, where ya been?
I've found them to work well in my 11-87 with gas adjusted and a couple pumps, once you understand how to cycle them. They give killing velocities and allow more bangs per full load.
If they don't work in your gun, try a different gun? Don't blame the equipment!

Re: What are these things used for?
I bought 2 or 3 boxes of them. They work fine in single shot H&Rs with pretty light recoil. I also tried running them thru my retired 870 Police riot gun. They worked fine when I cycled them rather slowly and deliberately. I didn't try anything fast and furious though.

Re: What are these things used for?
You are incorrect. They will reliably cycle in the Benelli Nova or Supernova, most Mossbergs or anything with a similar shell lifter.Bulldog wrote:The Winchester 1300 is the only repeater that will reliably cycle them without modification.
They've been around for about 15 years.
Re: What are these things used for?
Include my New Haven 778 (cheap version of the Marlin 120) but then again it's almost a direct copy of a Mossy 500.
