October Lever action Pistol Caliber - Competition Shoot

Post by Griff »

This thread is for posting of your pictured targets ONLY! If you want to brag on or cut someone's submission... do it in another topic... (Maybe here: Competition Shoot. You can submit either a picture or a scanned image. See rule #7... if we don't know who you are, you can't win... October 1 -31.

BASIC Rules: - lets keep it simple -

1. Repeating Lever-action rifle, center-fire pistol caliber ONLY (.32 to .45 cal)
2. Shot in the free standing position. (unsupported)
3. Iron sights or tang sights ONLY - no fancy stuff - scopes etc
4. B6 target.
5. 10 Shots only
6. 50 yards (ish)
7. Image of target and with name and date written on target, posted for consideration.
8. A maximum of 4 targets submitted for each Calendar month.
9. Your highest score counts.
10. Winner posted at the beginning of the next Calendar month.
11. Open to all members of the forum as of October 1st 2016

Approved target:

http://www.flat5.net/b-6rc.pdf

Scoring: Count 10,9,8 and 7 if you hit the paper. A hit on the line counts to the highest value. Where there is a tie the most Xs hit in the 10 ring will be the tie- breaker!

Donations for prizes will be cheerfully accepted. Be prepared to pay for the postage if you donate a prize. Recognize that we have members from Europe, Africa, South America, Australia, New Zealand, besides the US... PM either myself or KiwiKev with your donation... and we'll PM you back after the close of match.

Griff, old buddy, when did you develop the speech impediment?
"tread" rather than "thread" in first sentence.
No worries, it is easily corrected.

Since none of the rest of you chickens posted up a target... I shoulda shot yesterday... today was kinda breezy... and the long 24" octagon barrel of my 1873 couldn't even slow as it wavered around the target.
Image

I think it scores 46 from the five shots inside the score rings. I'll have to work on my timing!!! Maybe the trigger... :P Surely at least a couple of you can improve on my first target! 50 yardish, standing, off-hand... no cheatin'!

Ok. 1907 1892 32-20
Snuck in 20 rounds between raindrops. Realizing I need to shoot this gun more. Aim point was bottom right hand corner of paper. Took eight rounds to find the paper! Will try again.

Went out in the calm of the morning, just a little breeze with the 18.5" Uberti '73 Short Rifle, ½-rnd/oct bbl, and those 30 rounds extra from filling my Wild Bunch ammo can:
1st target scored an 83:
Image

I just knew I could do better, but... 2nd target scored a 63... until I realized toward the end that I was holding high:
Image
Yep, it was posted upside down as that's how it was mounted...

3rd target was a 91.. the best as I figured out just where that fuzzy thing at the end of the barrel was supposed to be on the target! (And cleaned my glasses)!!!

Greetings,

now for the worst score of the match
Marlin M1894 44 mag
factory sight
WW 240 gr JSP
with scope removed & Weaver base installed

Image

after the first (?) shot the rear leaf folded & I didn't notice as the sight picture was very poor with the scope base - the leaf was barely visible so I never noticed the difference  Later I discovered that the elevator was missing, so now I must find it - or a replacement. Must have taken it out years ago, when I installed the scope - my memory just isn't up to the job - oh well.

net result - one round on paper, for a score of 8.

Merle, props to ya... ya gave it a go... a LOT more than some folks can say! :D I think I removed the entire rear sight on my Marlin 375 when I scoped it. If you need an elevator, I think I might have a spare. Oh yeah, score confirmed. :D

Thank you. I'm no longer ashamed of doing poorly, the passing years have conditioned me to that. Sucks to get old, but it sure beats the alternative!

IIRC, I took the elevator out, as the leaf still wouldn't quite clear. Don't know if I should trust my memory - or not. I'll dig a while before calling "help" as I'm a major league pack rat & never throw anything away.

The October Leveraction Pistol Caliber Match is closed. I hope you'll joon me in congratulating Shasta on his fine shooting with the top score of 95 of 100! Backing that up with a score of 94 from a 2nd rifle! Congrats are also due Tycer for his score 94! Maybe we can entice them to share their secrets!

And whether you submitted a target or not, I hope you gave this challenge a try. If you did, I'm sure you found, like I did, that while that bull look awful big... until you set it out @ 50 yards(ish), and threw up a set of sights between it & yourself!

I hope to have another sticky up later today for November's match!

Thanks for a very enjoyable competition! :D

I shoot NRA Cowboy Lever Action Pistol Cartridge silhouette at our range every month all year long. I also shoot the Smallbore Cowboy Rifle and Centerfire Cowboy Rifle events every month, so I get lots of practice shooting lever guns. In the Smallbore and Pistol Cartridge events I shoot Master Class, but honestly I haven't shot a Master class score in any discipline in the last five years. I generally shoot low AAA class scores.

I'm looking forward to trying the November match, but I may not be able to as I now have a cast on my right leg due to some problems with my recent knee replacement surgery.

I fully intended to participate but every day this month I could go to the range, it was a rain....spring in New Zealand. :(
