Another silly 1911 Fanboi Neah Neah...
So... I've got these various handguns.
Some I keep as a TEOTWAWKI not-quite SMG tuck gun,
Some I carry even in my swim trunks,
And some I wear as visible reminders to our wuld be overlords.
But here is a fun bit...
Of all the handguns I have ever owed or carried, there is only ONE that can be carried, concealed, (by me) without a holster.
And that is a 1911.
At any point, time or occasion where I am out and about, I can put a Condition 1 1911 into my belt and make it disappear (sorry AJ... Para2x frames won't cut it...) while still being 110% ready to deploy.
The only other gun that can go there for me is my NAA Guardian in its "Wallet" holster.
I've tried, really tried, to find other guns that can do this. So far, there is only one other that comes close and it is also a Browning design - the HiPower. But even there the barrel to grip ratio is not as conducive to "Mexican Carry" as is the 1911. (Yes, I've tried this with several Glocks. Straight outa Compton notwithstanding, Glocks suck Mexican.
It seems to be a balance issue. A single stack 1911 hugs tight, tucks in, and won't shift grip heavy. In short, it will generally stay at a reasonable cant in a belt at 4-o'clock with or without a holster - something my 9mms have never been able to do.
So... it's something to consider. Need a Home Defense Gun that needs to be able to anish without needing to put on a gun belt? JMB got it right.

Not a good idea at any rate... I once found a guy laying in a ditch... the back tire of his Harley stickin' out of the weeds is what I saw... when I stopped I heard him moaning... yep, he'd just left the gun range, condition one, Mexican carry... seems the safety had come off, and as he tried to adjust it going down the road... blam... one less jewel. A few minutes longer & the docs said he'd have bled out.

My 1911 is right beside me cocked, and locked, but in a holster. That little leather strap between the hammer and fireing pin gives me a warm fuzzy. The DamDust things can happen. Once I had a J-Frame in my pocket, and when Bestlever asked to see it, it was cocked when I pulled it out. No way in he!! did I do that, but it WAS....I put it away until I got a little Uncle Mike pocket holster for it.

True. I'm still looking for an under-hammer strap holster for my 1911-style SIG 938BlaineG wrote:My 1911 is right beside me cocked, and locked, but in a holster. I have one of these for my 938. The Safety is protected. They also make them for cargo pants pockets and back pockets.

I guess my point is, unlike with any of my other guns, a 1911 rides almost as safely (and more comfortably) between my belt and pants as it does in a non-molded belt slide holster. Grip heavy double stack guns & revolvers can't do that.

Re: Another silly 1911 Fanboi Neah Neah...
I once knew a retired police Lieutenant. He carried in a pocket holster an AMT .380 (this was 21 years ago, and it was also an approval issue with his agency).
He had previously pocket carried a single action .25 with the safety on (I'm guessing a Baby Browning, but it could have been something else).
One day after many years of carrying it in that manner the safety wiped off and the trigger got pulled......
He got a nice .25 caliber groove across his thigh and he never pocket carried an SA gun again, pocket holster or not......
I've Mexican-carried a 1911 but I was never exactly comfortable doing so.
