Boy I do miss trout fishing. Back 35 years ago when I lived in McCall, Idaho I had the Payette River and excellent trout and Kokanee fishing less than 5 minutes away. Limit was 10 fish a day, and using half a nightcrawlers on a #8 baitholder hook and a split-shot on my first ultralight rod & reel I had no problem catch my limit within 30 minutes keeping only those bigger than 12 inches, all hatchery trout of course.
11 years later I spent 8 days on Lake Shasta using a rented houseboat as a base and trolling the whole lake catching rainbows so regularly that we increased our self imposed size limit from the legal 12 inches up to 16 inches and still caught our limit every day without difficulty. Also caught the only Kokanee of the trip a 23 incher, and the biggest fish of the trip a 25 inch Squawfish which fought like a champ.
We do have trout here but only in the high mountain streams and reservoirs of the island of Kaua'i where the colder is cold enough to support trout. The season is one month long in August with most of the reservoir trout being hatchery trout so relatively easy to catch, and the shoreline a zoo with fishermen stand shoulder to shoulder, and requiring extreme patience not wanting for a bite but putting up with other fishermen. Tried it once back in '93, and that was enough.
Now I just have to settle for fishing in my backyard stream for Barracuda (Kaku) and White Trevally (Papio), only thing being I have to upgrade my tackle since they break me off so often when I use ultralight tackle which I love.
