Decision time...

Post by Old Ironsights »

Got another chance to burn $50 worth of .45acp today and after working ranges from contact to 30yds it is obvious that, even though I can put all 8 placed shots on the 12"gong at 30 yards, and get the same results stressfire at 15yds, I either need to (A) get a shorter front sight or (B) get really good at aiming high.

Actually, I generally like my handguns to shoot high natively and then I can square up with a virtual V and hold the dot just a bit low. That is the fastest and most accurate sight alignment for me.

The high-hold inverted target covering ^? not so much.

Didn't keep me from keeping the hits all on the gong, but all low - even Rested. So...

I believe my Novak style dovetail is .330. I am consistently (off hand or Rested) 8" low at 25yds with OEM 230gr, ball or HP.

So the real questions are... What height and Fiber or Tritium?

It used to be that 1911s were regulated with 230s....I don't think they are anymore. My Para 1911 was a very low shooter, and Para had the lowest front they had on it. I took off the fibre optic tube, and ground off the little brackets for it. It ain't pretty, but, I'm shooting to POA with a 6 O'Clock hold. I can scare the "pelosi" out of clays at 100 yards, and every once in a while hit one...

If I have to replace front and rear I can. Both are Novak dovetails.

The OEM sights are really pretty decent milled 3-dot, but they just shoot abysmally low.
