Question for the Board
Seeing as this is smartest group of folks I know, a question:
If NASCAR were to run in Australia, would there only be right hand turns?

They wouldn't have to have an excuse for the time they spent on their roof.

Re: Question for the Board
If Nascar ran in Australia we'd need to turn our TVs upside down ...
I've always wondered why circle racers run counter clockwise ... 'er anti clockwise to the Aussies and Brits. Why not clockwise?
Can somebody answer that?

I thought Mad Max WAS based on their version of NASCAR?
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

They have something similar in the modified V-8s, (can't remember exactly what they call it). Winged sprints are enormously popular there and many of our stars go there for the winter just to race more.

Because it's a derivative of horse racing. And don't ask the why of THAT!!! As that sport goes back to when the 2nd guy domesticated a horse.J Miller wrote:If Nascar ran in Australia we'd need to turn our TVs upside down ...

Well, that makes as much sense as anything else I can think of.

Re: Question for the Board
Actually, the old boy that I learned my horseshoein' from, was a student of horses and horse racing. He theorized that like humans, most horses are right-handed... stronger on their right side and tend to remain on a right lead, which makes them "faster" in left turns... and that's why horse racing is mainly a left turn sport... He often expounded on the physiological reasons some breeds of horses are better at some tasks vs other breeds. And while he was an ardent lover of Arabs, he could talk at length about the superiority of other breeds in tasks that benefitted from their conformation and temperament. It was an educational year & half I spent with him. And while I've used little enough of it, I wouldn't trade the experience.J Miller wrote:Griff,Griff wrote:Because it's a derivative of horse racing. And don't ask the why of THAT!!! Re: Question for the Board
When turning left, the horse must be in a left lead which seems to be the most comfortable and natural lead for horses. This is why barrel racers usually go to the right barrel first, get the right lead out of the way and stay in a left lead for the other two barrels and the run home or back to the finish line.
Left lead dictates anti-clockwise.

Re: Question for the Board
1) 'Cause the steering wheel is on the left side (of the American stockers), and they need to see that inside rail, I b'lieve.J Miller wrote:I've always wondered why circle racers run counter clockwise
- or -
2) 'Cause the other guys are running that way.
Eh?
