Re: Vintage Redfield Receiver Sights
Per my copy of Nick Stroebel's book "OLD GUNSIGHTS", correct optional receiver rear sights for a Winchester Model 88 were Lyman No. 57W88, Redfield No. 70WW, or Redfield No. 80WW.
There was no model #70 77-88. Are you sure that "77-88" stamping is not actually a WW?
Hope this helps.

The only stamping on the sight is a single "W" on the back of the elevation slide. The box is marked No 70 WWH.Also Winchwster 77-88.It has the rounded ball shaped adjusting knobs.Warrenty paper in box states"this Redfield 70-WWH".

Re: Vintage Redfield Receiver Sights
OK, the "H" stands for Hunter style knobs, which are the domed, non-serrated, coin slot style. A single "W" stamped on the sight itself would designate it for use on Winchester Models 54 & 70, Remington Models 721, 722, 700, 725, Savage Model 110, Weatherby Mark 5. This sight would have a curved mounting surface to fit the rounded receiver of a bolt action rifle.
The correct sight for the Winchester Models 77 & 88 would be stamped "WW" and the mounting surface would be flat to match the receiver of these rifles. Pictures would help, but it sounds like you have a mismatched box for your sight.
