I've been known to spend a bit of time in the woods, and don't believe I've ever seen a fox. I've heard them scream a couple times. Unnerving, to say the least.

It appears there's about 45 in the front row, so times 2, about 90! That's a bunch for one outing! They look to be well fed.
Re: Nath: Friends of yours?
Heck, we've got a population living in a local park. I'd love to not see them there. I put them right up there with coyotes as pests. And heck, the coyotes in the same park won't even eat them.BlaineG wrote:I've been known to spend a bit of time in the woods, and don't believe I've ever seen a fox. I remember those license plates from when we lived in the Melbourne area. I didn't know there was a fox problem in the rural area.gundownunder wrote:I think you will find that the pic is from Australia

Thanks for ID'ing the Plate.
Makes sense that that many killed would be from an Introduced species more than natives from Nath's back yard... couldn't imagine him falling down on the job that bad.

Re: Nath: Friends of yours?
They're foxes, and we aren't falling down on the job. Those things breed faster than we can shoot em.
Unlike you guys, we are in summer now, and foxes breed in springtime. We are currently overrun with baby foxes, and they're so dumb that when you sit under a rock outcrop and whistle them in, they will jump off the top of the rock and land right in your lap.
If you want to see what a target rich environment looks like, check out "red card for foxes weekend" on google. It isn't unusual for a single community to turn in a few thousand foxes in a single weekend.

Did the Brits bring them in for the sport of fox hunting on horseback?gundownunder wrote:They're foxes, and we aren't falling down on the job. Those things breed faster than we can shoot em.

Re: Nath: Friends of yours?
Jeepnik, they did, and rabbits too.
Actually the history of the invasion of rabbits across Australia makes amazing reading, their ability to survive and thrive is astounding.
Those cultured English gentlemen had to have a little sport to remind them of the old country.
A shipload of deer would have been a much smarter option.

At this juncture, I would rather do an Aussi Rabbit & Fox (Dingo & 'Roo too) Safari" than an African Trophy Safari...
