Maybe a topic accidentally "locked"...???

Post by AJMD429 »

I didn't see anything 'bad' in the topic - Marlin Opening A Custom Shop...was it locked on purpose...?

I for one thought it was an interesting discussion.

"Take time to listen to other’s opinions and acknowledge them and also be confident to express your own. Listening to other’s opinions doesn’t mean you have to deviate from your own firmly held viewpoint, although a diverse opinion to your own can sometimes make you think about things in a different light. This is all part of a maturing of the mind. It’s not about convincing others that you are right or about them convincing you that they’re right but simply a matter of being understood and an acceptance that you might agree to disagree."

I also agree with Blaine.
PC'ness doe's have a tendency to rear it's head at times in this forum.
In my opinion it became much more prevalent when the forum political section was created on the 8th day :)

It doesn't look like PC to me. He started a thread and it went sideways. Not at all what he intended. Everyone wanted to dog pile on the how crappy Marlin/Remington is. Nobody disagrees on how theyve gone downhill, but that wasn't what the topic was intended to be about. More looking for something positive happening, giving some options over standard catalog items.

Hopefully they are getting things straightened out.

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

The OP's gentle hand on the tiller might have sufficed.
It would be appropriate for "Lockers" to have the testicularity to sign their names to their work.

It's inclusion in Wiktionary doesn't necessarily make it a "real" word. Internet slang notwithstanding. When a word's roots is traced back to a single citation, (1988 January 29, Tom Boeker, “Thrill Seekers”:), it still falls into the category of made-up words. :P :P

But, back to the topic, it does seem that we all fall victim to the singular vice of being unable to hold our tongues when we have nothing positive to add to a conversation...

Myself, I think the addition of a custom order feature for Marlin products would be a "good thing"! A mdl 336 "Cowboy" in .32-40 would be on my short list.... 8) 8)

Perhaps I've misunderstood. Is it truly your position that no word was ever at some point in time "made up?" Even before 1988?

I read it. I understood it. The spelling was observably correct to it's intended use and meaning. It was used in a sentence which I am certain all who read it understood, and at least one (IYO sub-standard) reference was provided.

Webster's, like the Supreme Court, is not the last "word."

Uh-oh. Better lock this thread. It's going sideways...

Yes, testicularity is a word. Griff as a Texan should know that. You need to take a break from the road and spend more time at home.

I have no problem with a thread being locked if it's getting ugly. But simply because it drifts.....?

But then again, it's not my forum so not my rules.

It never seemed to me that it went sideways? It did indeed get off the topic of the custom shop announcement. But I think it could have gotten on track if some link to the custom shop announcement could have been added. It seems like several people tried to find some news link about a custom shop, and came up blank. I know I searched all over, and contacted people I thought had an inside track, and got no info about it?
I'd guess the original topic got closed by request, and not because it turned sour, or got out of line. I wouldn't blame the moderators or admin for this.

I make up words all the time, and I understood its use and context just fine... but I didn't make it up! It's legitimacy is therefor questionable.

 I first heard that word about 1975 when WACs were integrated into the US Army. The delicate little flowers were offended by the use of "Ballz" so we started saying "Gosh darn it, use some testicularity, wouldn't you please?" It was a real word long, long before the internet. But, then, Texas didn't get its first shipment of books until about 1980, so Griff can be forgiven.

Mebbe I'm too simple, but words are made up daily, and if they convey a meaning that nearly everyone understands, cool (our countries politicians do that quite often; ie., "radicalized"?). As soon as I saw "testicularity" I knew exactly what Blaine meant...
