There's no end to all the things Winchester made during their booming years! They had everything from appliances, to fishing lures, to actual gun related items! And they weren't alone. Colt Patent Firearms was just as diversified, and maybe even more so! I was working in an old pumping station before I retired, and all the mechanical pump contactors had a Colt Patent Firearms tag on the cover!

Blaine, Mattel never built any M16 rifles. They did however build the plastic grips, and marked them with their logo, which led many to believe that Mattel had built the whole gun. http://www.snopes.com/military/m16.asp

I enlisted (not drafted ) in '72. Several months later, me and a buddy put in 4187s to go in country. Never got the assignment. Some days, I regret not going, and some days I fall on my knees and thank God to have been spared.

Lots of American company's branched out into products they should never tried. John Deere even made bicycles and bbq's. I saw a picture once of a JD brand motorcycle. ''Twas green of course and had a big flywheel on the side and also a sidecar.

I was in the USAF, and we had M16's in basic that were already well worn, since USAF got the first of them in 1962. Across the firing line, even with extremely well worn M16's, we never had a failure in any gun. Ours were even pre forward assist, and I never had a need for a forward assist.
I've had several AR15's from Colt, SGW, and Olympic Arms, and all occasionally had issues of some kind with feeding.
