well......that was messy.

Post by wvfarrier »

44 mag. 240 grain jacketed soft point with 23.5 grains of Lil Gun. 140 yards (ish). Winchester 94 trapper. Deer was walking away going slightly up hill. Projectile not recovered. Looked and looked but could not find it. Spine was broken in 3 separate places. Heart lungs and liver were a mess. Part of the spine was pushed into the chest cavity. Needless to say DRT.

That sure ruined a bunch of backstrap. I'm with Nath, slow that bullet down.

Naw leave the load alone if it shoots well just don't shoot in the spine anymore .

Quite frankly if I had shot that deer thru the neck or shoulder/s with that load and it tore it up like that I wouldn't care in the least . But I am kinda protective of the backstraps and the inner tenderloin

Yeah, I might believe that one didn't go anywhere... :P

But I hate it when the backstrap goes away on the shot! BTDT.
