Sweet. :) What is he? Looks kind of like some kind of lab or lab cross...

He is a labrador retriever. His mamma is better than 100lbs and the friendliest dog you would ever want to meet. His daddy is a big old block head lab and is also huge.

A little big for dove hunting, but he is already retrieving a ball. He has the instinct for it.

Cool! Our little Burka has no retrieving instinct that I have found yet, but does have quite a digging and hunting urge. It's a blast watching her sniff through the grass after bugs and such, wish we had more for her to nose around after. In a year you can get a small saddle for ol' Roscoe and have a dual purpose critter 'round the place...

Had a Lab once, he was black as night, named him Cinder because of his blackness. You have a good pup there.

If he's that big at only eight weeks, he IS going to be a big one. I can't believe the size of that pup!

He was a little noisy last night, but it will get better. You should see the feet on this pup!

I wanted desperately to name our new Black Lab pup Shaft when we got him a year ago! My "Little Cure For Happiness: put the kibosh on that citing that she refused to go to the back door and yell out that name to call for the dog! Go figure she ended up agreeing to Otis(My Man!).
He is an absolute angel and like your pups parents a big ole blockheaded Lab! I wouldn't change a thing!

Scott, Get him used to gunfire early and gradually

Post by Paul105 »

Adopted our lab at 10 months. She loves gunfire -- thinks something fun is about to happen. My daughter's dog (half lab, half white shepard) runs for cover whenever gunfire is within 100 yards.

They absolutely love children, your son will have lots of fun with his new Roscoe. My lab has been around the grandkids since they were infants -- they love each other.

Be prepared for some stuff to get chewed up until he turns two or so.

This will be my third Lab. The first "Alexander Coal Cinder" (Alex for short) was an outstanding dog. I used "Water Dog" as a training manual and he was simply spectacular as a retriever and a good friend.

My second Lab (Thumper) was totally retarded. He was a fun loving dog but the stupidest animal to walk the earth. When he finally learned about retrieving (very late) it was as if a light went off in his head. Worthless, but I loved him just the same.

You can teach a dog, like you can teach a horse, to tolerate gunfire. I have a technique which has worked on every dog I ever had. Most come running when they hear the shot.

Scott,

If it'll work on a 2 1/2 yr old dog, would apprciate it if you would share. I would love to get my daughter's dog used to gunfire.

Thanks,

Paul

It is settled, his name will be Rocoe.

Paul, I am not sure, I have used it with puppies and all of them got used to gunfire. My first Lab would lay at my feet as I shot an M16 full auto.

"Roscoe" reminds me of when I used to read Mickey Spillane. Good name for a Lab!

Excellent choice. I think i can remember you saying you wanted a small dog. VBG. Roscoe does not look to be small dog material. he is handsome. Reminds me of my first black lab male, RUGER. My favorite dog to date!

I had a bulldog back in the 70's I named Roscoe. After Roscoe Rules in "The Choirboys." The name seemed to fit. The dog just didn't catch on too quick. It seemed to act out of instinct instead of thought.

Nice lookin dog Scott. He should do well with your son to grow up with.

Good lookin' pup! Keep in mind a Lab needs a job. Even better, lots of jobs; they want to work.
Have Colts, will travel.
