Thumbler's Tumbler help please

I picked up this AR-12 Thumblers Tumbler at a yard sale a couple weeks ago, appears nearly new, used very little, only paid 20 bucks so if it's no good, no big thing. Runs fine.

I have a devil of a time getting the lid in and out of its groove in the heavy rubber grommet that forms the end of the tub. I can use a screwdriver and kind of ease it in and out but I'm afraid of damaging the rubber. Anyone know of a trick here to make this chore easier? Thanks.

PUT PRESSURE ON THE TOP SIDE RIM, it'll collapse downword, and the lid will pop right out.
