I'm in Arizona for a bit

Post by 7.62 Precision »

I am in Casa Grande right now - will be for another week and a bit, if anyone is in the area.

I have to do some shooting while I am here. :D

If you get homesick come up to Mt. Graham, we just got about 2' of snow over the weekend  It'll mostly be gone if we get a couple weeks of sun.

Thought you might. What else would one do there? And so did I, before they were built.

How many are up there now? I've lost track of what's happened up there.

Just three. Original plans were for something like seven, but the budgets and political will wouldn't stretch that far, site is about done as construction goes. We still have biologists studying those squirrels too.

I thought they were asking for a few more a 4-5 yrs ago. Guess they didn't happen.

Roger Angel once promised me a peek "through" the Columbus, as we called it then. But it was a long time after I left before they finally had it up and operational.

Never heard one called the Columbus. But then one outfit here doesn't really mix with the rest of us, so that's not really surprising.

I was once doing an install job in a big house up there, other side of that peak. We called in snotsdale too

I think they call it the "LBT" scope now. Might as well have called it the "Money Scope". There was that, the Vatican, and the Max Plank submillimeter as I recall.

Yeah, they call it the LBT now, it's still the money scope though  VATT and SMT are the other two. Max Planck got out of the SMT project years ago, maybe 2003 or so, U of A now owns it 100%.

My bad.

Sorry I missed you 7.62. Was busy getting my hiney kicked by the Super Bowl at work. Still recovering from that craziness.
Hope you had some fun while you were out here :)

Dern it-- next day off isn't until Wednesday. I can probably meet you at the airport on Tuesday if you're leaving in the evening ;)
