Here's an old timer for you. A Winchester Model 1873, 44-40, received in the Winchester warehouse November 10th, 1888 and shipped March 26, 1889. A farming family in a wild area of Ontario, Canada, bought it new about 1889. It stayed in the family until this past year, when the current descendants, still living on the same farm, didn't want it anymore. You can tell from looking at this old timer that it has earned its keep over the years. There is a mystique about a grizzled old Winchester that commands respect.
If anyone wants me to email them hi-res copies of these desktop photos, just email me (about 3 Mb for each photo). The Winchester calendar ain't coming out this year. I'm finishing up the photos, but it is already too late to send the calendar off to market. Keep yer fingers crossed for next year.

Those are beautiful pictures of a beautiful rifle.
It's a shame the family members let it go. That rifle was a part of the families and farms history. I'm glad you got it. At least it has a good home.

I wondered what it was used for. The canvas bag used to belong to my Father-in-law, but he's passed on now. I like it because it has a couple pockets inside making it a handy 'possibles' bag when I'm hunting.
