Savage model 170 pump 30-30
A couple of years ago I kinda got off on a tangent of collecting 30-30's.I have a Marlin and a Winchester and a Stevens 325 bolt gun. This weekend at a gun show in Greenville,SC I happened on a Savage model 170 pump in 30-30.I have been looking at gun shows for about four years for one of these.
Being a left handed shooter, the tang safety and pump action appeal to me.
The Savage model 170 was manufactured from 1970 thru 1981 in 30-30 and .35Rem.They came in ultra plain and checkered stock and forearm.
The one I traded for is in very good condition and has checkering. The serial number indicates a manufacture date of 1971.It does have an added scope rail on top in addition to iron sights.
I am looking forward to getting to the gun club to see how it functions before I make any plans for a scope.
I know,I know but I have no expertise in posting pictures.

I'm familiar with the savage bolt guns, but not the pump. Had to look it up but I like it. Looks very similar to my savage 67e 12ga slug gun.
Now you need a savage 219 in 30-30.
Then you need a savage 99 in 30-30
Heck, you could make a collection just out of savage 30-30s. Bolt, pump, lever, and break action.
I know all about getting on collection tangents! So I completely support yours! Actually, now I want to collect savages! stuff.

I just(saturday?) read an article on the Savage 170 as my SIL has one. The article explained the variations over the years of production as well as troubleshooting. It was a long and detailed article. I googled Savage 170 and it was close to the top.I have seen one or two over the years and thought i'd like one also. Let us know how it performs.

This sounds interesting. Maybe you could take a bunch of pictures and post some. I've never seen one of these or even heard of the model.
Good luck with it

My uncle has one. I am partial to it and very selfishly hope that he wills it to me...

my Dad bought one in the 70s & had it for maybe 20 years & traded it for a BLR
he always liked the gun, I passed on one a year ago kind of wish I wouldn't have

I remember when a new 170 sold for $99.99 which was a long time ago. They're typically quite accurate despite their budget priced beginnings.

I found a bunch of them for sale on Gunbroker. They aren't the prettiest thing I've ever seen but they do look serviceable.
Re: Savage model 170 pump 30-30
Back in the day, Savage also private labelled them for CIL when they were also selling firearms as well as ammunition.

I wanted one for a truck gun but it's been a long time since I've seen one. Hope you enjoy.

Today was beautiful here so I went to the gun club and shot the Savage 170.Performance was flawless and accuracy with iron sights was outstanding at 50 yards using 170 grain loads.
