I think I finally Traded UP for once...

Post by Old Ironsights »

Remember the Vaquero I traded into? Well, I was carrying it around a gunshow today... and walked out with a nice, all original, 10" 1977 Contender with (also original) scope.

The Vaquero was in good, but not VG condition (holster wear), but this Contender runs tighter to the VG scale... plus I kept the Vaquero Holster and a box +6 of .45 Colt, so... 8)

Now you know some folks just don't get the Contender/Encore thing, but I think they're cool.

Not your basic CCW guns, nor what I'd want in Grizzly country, nor combat, but for target shooting, and for many hunting situations, they can't be beat.

To this day, the best triggers I've ever felt have been on Contenders.

.22 LR. I wanted a break-action single shot .22 for use with Super Colibris to silent-snipe fuzzy critters, and the Contender happened to be sitting there.

Of course, since it's a Contender it really doesn't matter what it's chambered in. It will eventually be chambered in several things...

Got to love those Contenders!
For some reason I have ended up with four of them and more barrels than I care to mention, lots of fun :D

If you like the Contender or Encore platforms it's great !

But speaking as one who's had several Contenders and Encores I'da rather kept the Ruger .

I'm telling you right now; get rid of it quick b4 you get to attached to it. Contenders are a disease with no cure. No matter how many barrels you have, you will always be on the lookout for more and always planning for one more perfect barrel and caliber. i suffer from it deeply. But you got a great deal and hope you have fun with it.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

I have one and can't say I have been afflicted with the disease. I like it enough I guess, and at least they are well made. But I can take'em or leave'em.

anyone wants a 10" .44 mag barrel let me know. I'm sure we could work out a deal.
