Help with seeing the beam scale

Post by Ray Newman »

Am getting at the age where the eyes do not work as well as they once did. Lately been having a more difficult time aligning the scale cursor to read zero with no weight in the pan and setting the tenth of a grain and individual grain marks on the RCBS 10-10 scale. The lines are just too fine.

Was at the local Woodcraft store yesterday and saw a lighted 4” lighted magnifying lamp with a magnetic base and a clamp base. Bought one for US$45.00 plus tax.

Set it up today and sitting back about 18” from the scale at eye level, the pointer and zero mark, tenth of a grain and the individual grain markings are crystal clear. The unit is small, clear, and very bright

For curious minds, see: http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/150159 ... -Head.aspx
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

That looks handy. The dime store - oops, I mean dollar store-reading glasses are helpful too.

Ray,
Here is what I use - same thing but with more range and flexibility. I can't do without this thing in my shop.

I must be the youngster in the bunch... 'cause I don't need that stuff to see... YET! But, I can "see" that my turn's comin'! I love my son's electronic scale... but I just don't trust it the way I do my new RCBS 10-10! The Cadillac of beam scales!

That's the way I feel when I lose my glasses...
