Current state of Marlin QC?

Post by nralover »

Gents,

Anyone have any thoughts/recent experience/opinions on the current state of Marlin QC? I am definitely looking for a new levergun (my tried and true '66 336RC is going to my son for Christmas) and so I am in the market. I have looked at a few new Marlins off the shelf, and they look better cosmetically than they did 2-3 years ago. As far as I am aware, my choices are limited to these, the Mossberg 464s, and the Rossi rifles. Also, the Henry looks nice but seems overly heavy.

The new 336's I see leave me cold. whatever they use for the stock & for end looks hideous to Me. I looked at a new SBL 45-70 bout 6 weeks ago and couldn't find a thing wrong with it. except the high end dealer that wanted $899.00. with so many used Marlins around you should be able to find an older one, often in excellent shape. there are lot's of them for sale.

I saw a 336C that didn't appear to use the laminated stuff.
