I picked up a new issue of Handloader mag and it has a good article on the 300 Savage. I was going to load up some Speers 150 grain using IMR 3031 but I do have Varget, may have to try that out instead.
The 300 Savage responds to the same powders that are famous in the 308......medium......I always liked IMR 4895 in my old, now gone, 300.
If you really want to have fun, load that baby up with 170-190 gr. gas checked cast bullets with enough fast powder to push it to 16-1800. Shoot all day for $5.00-----6
I read that last week in the new Handloader. Got my new Rifle Magazine today.....happiness is a new Handloader or Rifle magazine.......the rest, with the exception of "American Rifleman" are not worth the paper they are printed on.------6

yes it was a good article on the 300 Savage. Nice to read of some recent load development by Sierra using some different powders. As far as American Rifleman is concerned it's articles are way better than 10 years ago (no where near the quality of the classic magazine of the pre 1968 gun control bill) but I wish there wasn't any political BS monthly columns by Cox, LaPierre, and whoever is the current prez. I'll sum up every monthly column: Obama bad, Holder bad, democrats bad, progressives bad, liberals bad, & this election is the defining one of the next 25 years.
What I liked about the old Rifleman magazines was all the nuts & bolts kinds of articles where a fella could learn how do things for himself as opposed to articles that direct one where to go to BUY everything that we see now....
