Life in a large county in Wyoming

Here is the daily synopsis of the law enforcement activity in Fremont County, Wyoming, for yesterday, posted on a daily news website. Fremont County includes the towns of Lander, Riverton, Shoshoni, Dubois and several tiny outlying villages. The county is larger than some states, IIRC. The town of Riverton is completely surrounded by the Wind River Indian Reservation.

Officers who serve in large cities will probably laugh at this.

We got very little law round here, thats why I had to take it into my on hands last week at the tracks in town
Had to go down town a little while but it turned out ok

Hey, just for the record, Ferguson is only about two square miles. The rest of the state is green from all the rain and mild temps and open for business. Canoe on our rivers, boat on our lakes, shooting ranges with events every week from sporting clays to benchrest and everything between. As one Ferguson resident said on late night radio, "that ain't us doin' that, that's street people doin' what they do. They comin' from all over to get in on actin' a fool". Street people for sure. I live in St Charles County and rarely go into "the City". Like once a year to the ball game.

Now that I got that off my chest. I LOVE THE WIND RIVER BASIN! My wife and I drove through there on our way to Jackson last fall and she got worried when she saw how I was looking at it. Since then I've made a couple deliveries (I haul water treatment trailers to power plants, oil fields, chem plants, etc.) in the area and happily take those trips whenever they are offered. Beauty in any direction you care to look.

I thought the best thing in the report was that they numbered their raccoons!

Its also basically in St. Louis --- much like LA and San Fran are to California , we shouldnt judge a whole state by the goofiness that happens in its largest and most problematic city

that is how i grew up....... if you had called the sheriff , the earliest they would have arrived would have been 40 minutes or more, if they even showed up.

this is not a bad thing in many ways, you become self reliant ......just like folks were 130-150 years ago.

it does explain my attitude about things though : )

Ferguson is actually a "hood" in St. Louis.
St. Louis is really a suburb of Chicago.

I did a ride-along last Sunday (08.24.14 swing-shift 10 hrs.)...we had three domestics (one in custody), 6 traffic stops, two burglaries to investigate, one man brandishing a firearm on an over-pass (that interrupted lunch, man had a fishing pole attached to the handlebars of his bike), and a few assorted smaller calls, plus additional reports and paperwork...never did finish lunch and we worked an extra hour of overtime--YEAH Wyoming sounds nice...quiet can be good... Code-4... :)

On a busy day, I work almost as many calls as their entire sheriff's department.

And we've got another 10 officers on the same shift.


And we're not in a 'big' city. Good sized, but not big.

Sad thing up here is that if you want "busy" you've got to work for the Coroner.

Too many "unattended" deaths up here... particularly on the Rez...

Yeah don't try to push that simple living stuff off on us, most of us have seen Longmire and we know how fast folks get killed of there in Wyoming. It's like Cabbot Cove over there.
