Stopped at the location pawn shop this morning and they had 2, yep >1, <3, Savage 99s. Both in 300 Savage IIRC. Can't say much about the condition, as I did not even ask to handle them. (not a Sav 99 fan) I would say one had a browned patina, I believe is the term. And I think they are asking some ridiculous $500+ price.

Not always ridiculous. Lots of rare varaitions out there worth 3-10 X's that much, even though they look beat. Most times the sellers don't realize this. I have made many "steals" this way. I know a guy recently who happened on to a well used Remington 700 in 35 Remington for a song. He more than quadrupled his money.
How 'bout the rancher who for 40 years carried Serial #1 Winchester Model 70 on his horse and the rifle rack of his pick-up truck and never knew what he had. He sold it for nearly nothin'-----the next guy retired on it.
It pays to have several good books on the more desirable brands of guns and read, read, read. This way, the next time you walk in that shop, you could be "robbing" them.------------Sixgun
