The Model 64 was introduced in 1933 and chambered in .25-35, .30-30 and .32 Winchester Special. 219 Zipper was added in 1938, and it and the .25-35 were dropped in 1941. Production ceased in 1956.

It came standard with a 24" barrel, though some 20" barrels were also used. According to Madis the 219 Zipper standard barrel was a 26" tube.

Its major difference from the Model 94 was the pistol grip and a wider, "beavertail" forend. (Early ones were less pronounced). It was built as a "rifle" with forend cap vs. bands, and came with a 5-shot, half magazine.

The Deluxe version was called "The Deer Rifle" and included checkering, a pistol grip cap and quick-detachable sling swivels.

If I recall correctly from 1933 to 1938 they used their own serial numbers, after that, they were numbered in the Model 94 series.

In 1972 and '73, Winchester introduced a modern version called the Model 64A, basically a standard model 64 with the scintered steel of that era receiver. Other features remain the same.

A common mistake. There are two Winchester 32's - the WCF (Winchester Center Fire) which was chambered in the Winchester 73, 92 and similar small actions and the WS (Winchester Special) which was chambered in the Winchester 94, 64 and similar actions. If it's a Winchester 64 in 32 Winchester Special then you've got a nifty pistol gripped levergun in a nifty caliber. I'd love to have one, myself. :) Our "Family Rifle" that's taken all kinds of game all over the western US is a Model 64 in 25-35 caliber. The last critter to fall to this rifle was a nice fat Missouri white tail doe in '06 - my brother's first deer.

What other details can you give? Barrel length and profile? Condition? Take down? (Did they make the 64 in take down configuration?)

They are a great rifle if you like pistolgrip leverguns. :) They aren't as handy as the carbine length barrels but the ol' family rifle's one of the most accurate open sighted rifles I've every shot. What condition is the bore? Lack of bluing only means that it's a great shootin' gun and not a safe queen. :D

I believe they bring a nice little premium over the Mdl 94 of like vintage. Remember to share pics of your new rifle when you get it home! :P

From the archives: The Winchester Model 64 with photos...

http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... ght=#43870

Buckeye,

Congrats on acquiring your first Model 64, especially in 32 WS! If I could have only 2 centerfire lever action rifles there is no doubt that a Winchester Model 64 would be one of them. The Model 64 is one of the "perfect" Winchester rifles! I think you will really enjoy shooting it and hunting with it there in TN! :D

Back in about 1957 my dad and I were deer hunting in wisconsin. We ran across another hunter in the woods that was cussing out his gun for a buck he had just missed. It was a nice model 64 in .32 win. Dad bought it from him for $50! We also gave him a ride of 2 or 3 miles back to his farm so he could get a shotgun to finnish the day. Dad put a peep on it. about 10 years ago I went home and was dissapointed to find that he traded it for a remington and got the worse of the deal! He wasnt up on prices in his mid 80s!
Anyway about 30 years ago I picked up this 30/30 that appeared unfired for I think $200. I have put less then 2 boxs through it as I more often shoot my 94 I bought new in about also 1957. The serial # on my 64 indicates about 1952.

Yea, I think its best for retards not to post questions that are as vague as outerspace. Do what we do---spend some money and buy some books. Or maybe you could type in "Model 64" on Google. You have to be under the age of 30---the lazy generation. Now, go get your Kleenex and cry yourself to sleep.
My Cousin happens to have a learning disability ,at one time people like yourself would call them retards ....If you want to be a DA be one ...I respect the opinons of the gentlemen on this site.
I find this site very informitive.
And I may have asked a vague question.
But others gave me great history on this firearm.
And if you wasn't such weeny head,I'd consider this a personal attack .
I found over the years to overlook people like youself .

But ...!(theres always a Butt) just a joke ...we both like firearms and I'm sure we both support the 2nd....and I'm sure with both of our faults we have some things in common ...
so lets bury the hatchet...and not in each others Skulls.
