3 Days in Minnesota

Post by Griff »

Well... if you had cabinets on order at Menards... they MIGHT be in! Spend all day yesterday running around the Twin Cities delivering.

Learned a few things about Minnesota! 1 - Red Wing shoes are made in RED WING, MN... who knew? 2 - If Minnesota is "the land of 10,000 lakes"... it's also the land of 100 million potholes!! 3 - Some folks are polite, while others have issues! WAIT, that's a universal truth; doesn't count! 4 - Not ALL of the women have thick ankles... (long standing joke with a former co-worker, we'd try to pick out where folks from based on the way they were dressed, hair-styles, etc... she'd point out some thick-ankled female... and say, "...Minnesota, land of thick ankles!") 5 - Close roads with little or no warning... for long term construction... had to go about 10 miles out of the direct line to get from St. Paul to W. St. Paul... 6 - change hwy numbers like socks! When did MN 3 become US 52? Ok, so my map is 5 years old... that sort of thing is major! 7 - Northfield is an actual, live, breathing town! Not just some historical reference! :P :P

But, have a question... What is the "Anderson Center" outside Red Wing? :?:

Be here thru tomorrow... up in St. Cloud... holy stuff, TWO Wal-Marts?

Good country but potholes happen - esp. after last winter. It was a special one :)

Now you are headed up through Potato Country towards Lake Wobegon. It's all good. Have some hotdish and a brewski before you leave.

Have had it before... all good. This morning I tried something call Wild Rice Sausage. Tasty, but I ain't wild about it. I'd have been happier with some good ol' kielbasa. Leaving tomorrow for southeast GA.

I don't know if you will like the gunshops , shotguns , shotguns, shotguns. You have to get up to the northwoods to find those old Winchesters. The southern half of the state is slug zone for deer hunting. Duck, goose and pheasant hunting rule . Ahlmans is a great shop in the southern part of the state.

Always potholes , because the gas tax goes into the State general fund , instead of the highway fund , like Wisconsin. Gas tax is a user fee , those who use the roads help pay for them through the gas they use.

If you are hanging out in Rodger's, check out the Cabela's...also the old car joint on the frontage road.

I will probably be in that neck of the woods late tomorrow afternoon, unless I get hijacked in downtown Minneapolis.

There is a nice saddle shop on the frontage road next to Cabela's . I think it might be Pleasant Hills Saddlery.

Lazed around all day readin' the new "Hitch & Cole" adventure "Iron Horse by Robert Knott under license from Robert B. Parker's estate, (so far, so good). Loaded up on sodas @ Wal-Mart and got the "new" Riddick movie.

Ja, sure, u betcha!
Have seen quite a few.
No. Cool enough for a long sleeved shirt, great sleepin' weather, no heater required.

But, have noticed an awful LOT of signs that read: "Guns Prohibited," "no Guns Allowed," or "Guns Forbidden."

Ah, Cabela's, seen one, seen 'em all. They don't carry real silk longjohns anymore... seems these new man-made fibers are all anyone carries... and I don't like 'em. You either still freeze or sweat. I guess they're ok, if you're only outside, but not so good for moving back & forth between indoors and out!

Yep lots of that prejudice going on. I just don't understand there problems with the natives
You know it cracks me up. Everyone is broke and whining about no money and everything else in the state Yet you go to the casinos and they are full.

Griff it was 38 the other night and I killed 2 skeeters. Almost rode up to see Pitchy today but had more pressing plans.

You need to head up north a couple hundred more miles. Although it's not quite spring here yet. Good grief. Oh wait one of those lakes is thawing out. Boy is it going to be crowded for opener.
