Wild turkeys and jackrabbits

Post by crs »

Last weekend the DWWC sponsored a youth turkey hunt on a big ranch near San Angelo in West Texas and I took my grandson. Saturday evening he ambushed a nice gobbler on its way to water and was very pleased; one shot to the head at 30 yards with a load of 5s from his 20 gauge:

Then, after supper three of the young hunters went out in a pickup supervised by four adults from 10 pm to 2:30am varmint hunting and took 15 jack rabbits and a skunk! Even though they had all taken nice gobblers that day, the night hunt was the highlight of their weekend. Age left to right: 11, 14, 13. The lever gun belongs to the young lady and her dad shoots a Marlin .45-70; good genes.

Man, does this bring back memories! :D

This hunt is one of several annual youth events sponsored by the Dallas Woods and Waters Club.
This month there is a safety event at the Poetry Shooting Club to instruct proper and safe use of rifles, handguns, shotguns, and archery. Naturally there will be plenty of vittles.

Every summer we take a few kids fishing and sight seeing in northern New Mexico. They stay at the NRA Whittington Center and fish at Ted Turner's Vermejo Park ranch where we are not charged for fishing(thanks Vermejo).

There are also several annual fishing and hunting trips for members and guests; next week, I will be with a group fishing at CoCo Marina in Cocodrie, LA and expect to return with a cooler full of fish.

Now that's my definition of 'fun'.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.
