winchester 1886 question
1886 I thought would have been the first year for that model. If this is so why does itt have patten dates 1884 1885 under the lever, just wandering. Also why would he think it was worth 20000 + its not a deluxe, its a 38 56 made in 1888.

The mechanism was granted US Patent No. 306,577 on October 14, 1884. The mechanism was to become more famous as the Winchester Model 1886 lever action repeating rifle.

The US Patent process during the 1800's surely wasn't the "fast food"/instant gratification that many modern folks have been hooked on today - The government wheel's grind exceeding slow.
IDK what $20K M1886 you're referring to - but most ex-used car salesmen always ask the sky, hoping to land at least on earth, ILO of underwater.
(aka the salesman's mantra: If you don't ask for it, you'll never get your price. )
