Help with 9mm 125gr powder selection: Red Dot or Unique?
Hi -
I have not loaded 9mm before. I have Red Dot and Unique handy. Do you prefer one over the other? I have Remington 125 FMJ, and 125 LRN to load.
Thanks in advance!

I have never loaded for it either. But I have been thinking about starting. Maybe save the Unique for other cartridges. If you can get accuracy from Red Dot use it first. My old 45th Edition Lyman manual shows Red Dot starting load at 3.5 grains.

Either one will do just fine. Red Dot will probably use a bit less powder, Unique a bit more speed at the top end.

Unique is one of the best powders for full power loads.

Both are good.
Try each to see if you pistol likes one better than the other.
Half the fun of reloading is the shooting.

The beauty of Unique is it has so many uses. It works well in so many things. Its one of the few powders I buy in 8lb cans.
Best of luck with whatever you choose.

I use Red Dot for all my 38 Special, 9mm, and 45 ACP loads. Good powder.

Unique is indeed a "go to powder" for handgun loads. Just about does it all. I do like the economy of using Red Dot, and have had good results with it as well. Basically, you have two great powders on hand, so load away and see which one performs better in the gun or guns you are loading for. That will drive the ultimate decision on which powder and charge to use going forward.

My Uzi gets fed a steady diet of 4.5 of Red Dot and a 115 cast bullet sized .355. It produces no leading and excellent accuracy to 200 meters.-----------6
