Marlin 1894 cowboy competition vz cowboy limited

Post by Monte »

Found both a cowboy competition in 38 special and a cowboy limited in 357. I will probably plink and target shoot with this gun so hunting potential for anything bigger then a rabbit is not an issue. Price is about the same. Is one better then the other? what is your opinion?
Thanks

Yeah, you can't shoot 357 in the 38.

I think the 38 has a shorter cyle as well.

The 357 is what's I'd get, since you have an option.
...and I don't think he even knows it...Walks around with a half-assed grin...If he feels fear, he don't show it. Just rides into hell and back again.

Monte, They are basically the same except for the chamber and the finish.
The comp. is color case finished and has Marlin safety stamped on top of the receiver. Also it is not drilled and tapped for scope sights. The comp. was slicked up some at the factory for CAS and cost a couple hunnert bux more new.
Both rifles are good, just depends what you want to do with it and what one you like the best.
If in the same condition and selling for the same price, the competition would be the better deal value wise as it should resell for more.

Since you emphasize that the power is not important you may like the 38 better. The one I saw was about $200 more than a Limited.

Price was about the same. I do like the 24" barrel of the limited but the look of the competition (case color). Was one better made?

I've had both........the .357 mag is more flexible.........the case hardening on the limited is prettier........the limited has the "factory action job" ( )......the .357 mag can be slicked for just a few $

I love Marlins........I'd buy the .357 mag.

For your stated purpose, I would go with the limited in 357. The CB comp is a pretty nice CAS rifle, but the "factory action job" is a bit overstated!

The "Comp will hold or increase in value more that the "Limited". And, theoretically, the .38Spl will give better accuracy with .38Spl ammo due to the shorter jump to the rifling. JMNSHO.
