A Good Soldier Was Called Home Yesterday

Post by Blaine »

Master Sergeant (ret) Roger Collingsworth. Airborne, two tours in Nam. He had been selected for the SGM Academy, but, could not attend for medical reason. He fought this decision all the way to the White House, and President Reagan himself thanked him for his service, and pleaded with him to gracefully retire.
He was my boss for awhile, a mentor that probably kept me out of jail a couple times, and a best friend.
We spent many a night following his coon hounds until daylight, then making 6am PT with a smile.
He taught me the basics of archery, and deer hunting. I'll never forget the day we both took nice whitetails with our bows.
Roger loved his country, his Army, and his soldiers. The world is a little less patriotic today with his loss....
I was lucky to have lunch with him when I was in Ohio last September (I'm the bearded one)Image

Sadly, the last great service our friends perform for us is to prepare the way.....

Blaine, please accept my condolences for the loss of your friend and mentor.

I am forever grateful that such men pass this way, and in their wake contribute to the building of fine fellows such as yourself.

May he rest in peace.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.
