Re: The last bullet you'll ever need?
That is nasty!
Re: The last bullet you'll ever need?
I have my doubts.
But there is no doubt I have no use for this bullet myself. I will leave it to the black plastic folks.

We'll see....Something new is always coming out, and a year later we still have JHPs blowing the "stuff" out of what needs the "stuff" blown out of them...

It may or may not be what it is purported to be, but the horror movie tone of the commercial is doing nothing to help "our side".

Exactly - just like the Winchester, cop-killer, buzz-saw, BLACK TALON bullets that were way overrated but caused much unnecessary grief to the cause.Mac in Mo wrote:It may or may not be what it is purported to be, but the horror movie tone of the commercial is doing nothing to help "our side".

Soon to be banned in California and New York, thereby insuring sales by the millions.

Re: The last bullet you'll ever need?
It is a safer bullet, it's lead free, so even the girls governing the nanny states should like it.Didn't they hear, we need "safer bullets".
If it works as described it could be what everyone is always looking for "A one shot fight stopper in a handgun" but of course the ferals will have them too.
And here in the land of Oz, if we have a problem we can call the police on 000 so we won't need them and even if we did need them we wouldn't be allowed to have them.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Like most frangibles based on the idea of "energy dump" they fall short of being as effective as the good, proven bullet designs. A little research shows they are like other designer bullets - more hype than performance.

I am old enough to have gotten over the fascination with gimmick bullets. This one certainly qualifies.

7.62 Precision , I agree. If one is hunting Jello they may be just the ticket. On anything with some beef to it I think they will fail to do what is needed. That has been already taken care of with quality bullets that have been around for many years.

They shouldn't sell them to law enforcement, though, until our government is back under some semblance of Constitutional control...

I guess all they need to do now is call it a cop killer bullet! Personally, I think it looks to nasty for reliable feeding from a semi auto pistol.

Read another article on those. I'll find the link later but the gist is... "balloons & gelatine are not a substitute for verified barrier & carcass testing..."

Yeah, but the water balloons are growing exceptionally big here, and tend to be quite aggressive.

Really, you mean it will give me 100% one shot stops on everything from mice to elephants? What, you mean it's not the last bullet I'll ever need? I do love truth in advertising. Oh wait, we haven't had that since... Well really forever.

Re: The last bullet you'll ever need?
http://bearingarms.com/g2-researchs-r-i ... ampaign=nl
http://bearingarms.com/is-g2-researchs- ... ampaign=nlIt looks great on camera, and I suspect that these bullets will leave nasty wounds to close if they were shot into a living thing. I suspect, though, that a copper bullet that starts out at just 96 grains and sheds roughly half it’s weight due to designed fragmentation will simply not penetrate enough under a wide range of conditions to be reliably effective as a modern hollowpoint.
While using different technology, it seems to be operating on a theory similar to MagSafe and Glaser, that rapid fragmentation and widespread wound channels are preferable to deep penetration and relatively narrow wound channels.
For general use, most law enforcement agencies have traditionally preferred deeper penetrating hollowpoints, but there are specialized situations where rapid fragmentation is preferable.
Modern hollowpoints are more likely to reliably penetrate deep enough to hit major organs and effect a central nervous system or skeletal system hit, while the MagSafe, Glaser, and presumably the R.I.P. will cause substantial blood loss, but less reliable penetration to vital organs.
Far from being the “last round you’ll ever need,” the R.I.P.—which is brain-dead marketing for a self-defense round, by the way—strikes me as a very specialized round best suited for concealed carry in warm climates in densely packed urban areas, or in home-defense situations where the risk of collateral damage is high and the shooter has good reason to believe that over-penetration is more dangerous than under-penetration.
I don’t hate it, but it doesn’t suit my needs for my personal situation.
The Yankee Marshall takes G2 Research to task for the way they are marketing their “Radically Invasive Projectile” (R..I.P.—get it?) machined copper ammunition. I think he makes very valid points, and suspect that R.I.P. will be a self-correcting problem once market forces take hold.
G2 Research is using marketing double-speak to suggest that their attempt at over-priced frangible ammunition is going to successfully rewrite the laws of physics where all previous attempts at making the ”last bullet you’ll ever need” have failed.
We know that controlled expansion works, and we’re seeing some interesting preliminary results from copper bullets working off that theory in both hunting and self-defense rounds. Perhaps that is where the future lies.
Fancy jargon, shallow fragmentation, and a narrow primary wound channel created by a core that functions as an underweight wadcutter, however, don’t impress me in the slightest.

Other than for causing horrible wounds in paper targets, this is one of the dumbest "bullet" ideas I've seen come down the pike.. It is the bullet I would NOT want to use, in a hostage situation, particularly..

I will stick with what I am using for now. How many hogs are thin skinned? That might be good on feral cats, or a small feral dog that has somehow evaded becoming coyote poop.

Re: The last bullet you'll ever need?
C'mon let's go back to arguing over the size of our meplats and hardness of our bullets - and leave these idiot kids and their new inventions alone - shame on them anyway. Jiminy Crickets, I bet John Nosler too had to hang his head after introducing the similar Partition bullet. Especially when facing criticism from those completely satisfied with simple "cup and core" bullets and 1,300 fps velocities. Reaching and settling at the peak of innovation stinks.

Most of the fragments, even in bare gel, got less than 5" penetration.
I'll stick with Federal HST, Ranger SXT and Golden Sabers. You know, the ones the FBI tests actually show work (and which multiple shootings to real scumbags confirm).
About the only extra buzzword these guys missed was 'blended metal technology'......

These are supposed to work really well on whitetails from what I've read. But it's real expensive and a small niche. The above is the same idea but in a pistol bullet, but it might not translate as well to the shorter pistol bullets.
