I just got my 1895G 45-70 back from my gunsmith yesterday. I've had it for 6 yrs now and took my first bear with her. It's got alot of personal value to it. I got it from one of the fellas in Alaska Bear Tales that was mauled on Raspberry Island in Kodiak while deer hunting. Anyways I took it to my smith in Kodiak years ago to shorten the barrel, before he was able to get the work done, I had changed my mind and was aching to shoot it as he was behind the 8 ball w/ work and bear season had just opened. Well I sent it off about 9 days ago and got it back yesterday!!!!The rear ghost ring was originally all the way to the left as the barrel was slightly over torqued from the ractory. I opened the box and I'm in love all over again w/ her. He shortened the barrel to 16 1/8"
centered and re mounted my front sight, reblued the crown. Got rid of the factory porting. It now wears XS sights, WWG leverloop, saddle ring and I'm ordering a WWG trigger too. I couldn't be happier w/ his work. Best of all it cost me $10.00 shipping. The old man didn't even charge me!
I'd love to post some pics if some could post em for me, I can email em to
to ya. If you need a good gunsmith in Alaska give ole Tim Tesch from Delta Junction a ring, he's a hell of a guy...
