My condolences, and I feel for you! But, if it's any consolation, that dog appears to
have had about the world's finest "Dad!" Glad to see the adventures he got to go on,
and I cracked up over his pulling the sled loaded with dog food! I'm sure he had a fine
life with you -- much better than many other dogs!

All the best to you and yours,
John

I think of your Snoop dog every time I see a Dachshund and I still hope he will turn up one day....

I sure feel bad about that. I hope that someone down south is giving him a good home.

You got to be kidding....a year??? Seems like it was last summer.

I don't have words for ya Pitch, other to say I know where your head is at. When my Skittles died a couple of years ago, it was months of mental anguish, never to fully cease. You notice I have been posting pictures of my cat? Cats don't let you get too close to them. It's probably why I have shot my share of those nasty critters......(wild ones)

We still have plenty of dogs but they are in my wife's "entourage" and I could easily steal one from her with plenty of food offers but when the thoughts of the pain we go through run in my head, knowing that I will most likely outlive them, I decline.-----6

I'm really sorry Pitchy. It's nice that you have such great pictures but I'm sure it's tough too.
We only really had hunting dogs when I was young and I wasn't really a dog guy. My wife is and has a yorkie. He is a good little dog but nothing I really got attached to. A couple years ago she got this little toy poodle and for whatever reason she just latched onto me. I'm pretty crusty but that 4lb. dog wore me down fast. I dread the day she's gone already. I finally understand I guess.
Hang in there Pitchy.

Every time I am out, I still look around to see if there is a Dachshund heading North. I hope he can make it home somehow. Dogs can be more than just a pet. Some of them are the best friend you can have. I hope you can find comfort.

Thought about you and Snoop as I let my Walker dogs out this morning. They slept inside last night as it's record setting cold here in NE OK this morning.

No thank you for posting the pictures. It looks like the two of you had some wonderful times together. I showed them to my wife and she enjoyed them also, especially the little sled.

I have loved and lost a number of pets over the years. I cherish every memory I was able to make with them.

Dachshunds are very loyal and protective. We had a miniature and for our family I was the Alpha dog, "Annie" was the Alpha female, and my wife came up as the "beta" female (but we knew who really was the "boss"). Loyal friends/pet are extremely difficult to replace and I understand you missing Snoopy. I still miss Annie after 12 years...

It's been maybe four months since we had to put our little dog to sleep !

Thanks fellars, tell ya what`s hard about this situation is not knowing what happened to him, wondering if someone found him or if he wandered around looking for us until he starved or something killed him.
He was a abused puppy when we got him and it took a long time for him to feel loved and we were the only people that could get near him.
I promised him I would never let anything happen to him, that he gets whatever he wants then look what happens.
It`s an evil world sometimes

6pt, sorry for your loss and everyone else's, glad you all found new buddies. :)

All i can do is offer up a sincere hope that somebody took him in that also loves him. I love the pictures but they make me sad too --- i tend to think of my little dog , Buttercup, as a little kid almost -- this is a psychological issue that stems from my wife and I not having kids i think
-- but these little dogs are still strong , resilient and capable for their size , that is why i think he must have wandered a bit too far, but someone found him in the meantime

This goofball will be 1/4 mile down the road if i turn my head for a second -- and has tried to attack my donkey's , much to their amusement --- she bluffs much bigger dogs frequently by going on the offensive (but i am trying to train that tendency out of her -- she is going to encounter the wrong dog in the wrong mood someday)

I never owned a dog while i was single. My wife grew up with house dogs. i never knew what a good companion they can be till she gave a chocalate lab pup for my first birthday after we were married. had him for thirteen years, He used to howl when the babies would cry in the morning. HE WAS SO GENTLE HE WOULD NOT EVEN SCRATCH HIS OWN FLEAS. After he passed we adopted a dog from the local shelter. This one was half pug and half bassett hound. He followed me everywhere. I f i left the house to go see my neighbor, he would scratch at the door till my wife let him out to follow me. Dang, that dog loved beef jerky. After he passed, we adopted a pup from the pound she is half pug and half chihuhua. All spoiled! had her for ongoing eight years. She lets me now when dinner is ready! Just trying to say, sorry for your loss pitchy, hard to fill a hole in your heart when a beloved pet is lost. We get our dogs from the pound, none from the puppy mills. My advice to you is get another to share their life with you. Before you know it, it will have you looking forward to see them in the morning. :)

I'd bet he's still around, dogs are far tougher than people. I don't think they give up and die of despair the way humans often do.

I've known of cases where dogs survive cold, hunger, and drought far better than I would expect - in two cases the people they were with died of exposure when the dog survived.
