My pair to draw to.

Post by GoatGuy »

This pair of fine firearms, (1979 Marlin .45-70 and 6" Stainless Security Six in El Paso Saddlery holster) was always my choice for a hunting/camping duo. Funny how things change from time to time. Don't know if they are still my #1 choice, but I won't be turning my back on them anytime soon.

I might sub my 444 Marlin and Ruger Redhawk in 44 Mag, though, depending on what critters were around. Where I live a pair of 32-20's would do just fine, actually; no big beasties around these parts. :(

Yeah, I remember that post about your preference of "ATV's" for moving goods. At times there you might have also needed a trusty "pair to draw to".

A man who goes into that country to do that would be a fool, not to have a "pair ".

Beautiful picture of that pair. As a lefty, the first thing I noticed (after the gorgeous guns, of course) was the lefty holster too. It seems in pictures or movies one of the first things I notice is when someone is a southpaw.

Mescalero, good eye and quick to notice. Thanks for looking. By the way, that Marlin carries a Weaver 2.5-1 Micro-Trac, ...a great accessory for the 1895.

Thank you, Cheyenne. Yeah, it's a fish scale stamped, El Paso Saddlery Co. 1920 "Crossdraw" left hand holster. It's merely their 1920 Tom Threeperson's holster in the cross draw configuration. I like a crossdraw holster because I carry a hunting rifle, w/sling, hanging from my left shoulder. The holster is handy for a draw and keeps the revolver from banging against the rifle stock as I walk.

I too notice the southpaws, just as you do. You suppose we do that to validate that we're not alone in a world full of "right handers"?

On the Micro-Trac's, we crimped in 4 carbide balls into the inverter.
The adjusting srews were hardened to 65-68 C scale.
Your adjusting screws are riding on carbide balls, rock steady and repeatable.
Darn good scope!
You done good.

That "burro", as you referenced him, would be really really p***** that you were ignorant of the reality of his being a 900+ lb, 14.5 hand Mammoth Donkey. :x Don't worry though, he can't read and I won't tell him.

I just Love Old Winchesters and Colts. They just somehow go with Saddles and er uh Behemoth Animals.
I to had to go with Goat fence, stupid Goats kept getting their heads caught. Some learned how to get their heads out and some didn't.
Excellent Pic, I love the way all the colors come together.

Perry - yesterday, I found one of my late spring born doelings dead, head caught through the fence behind our pond dyke. Can't remember how many times I've worked her head out of one or the other of our fences here since she grew horns. Her horns still weren't more than a 2.5 inches. Bless her heart, hate for her to have suffered and died that way, but she was just one more of a very few kids we've had over the years that never seemed to learn. - John

My children learned about 'responsibility' and the 'finality of death' when they left a hay-rope in the hay feeder a couple times and their baby goats got strangled for them to find the next morning. Sad about the goat, but an invaluable lesson for the children.

Mescalero - sorry for the delay in responding. Somehow missed your posted question. The cinch writing says Weaver. Name of the company that makes them. They are made of neoprene like material.

Kind of neat that you have a preference for the items that are made to last. Nothing flashy about that pair of the outfit with them, at least to me. Just good solid workmanship that will last as long as you take proper care of it all.
