Sixgun's, AJMD429's and Tycer's "Remington Model 25 club" anyway!
After missing the Remington Model 25 that Sixgun sold to AJMD429, and kicking myself silly for a month about it, I found one for sale at GunBroker.com a week and a half ago. Won the auction, and now it is mine.
Lousy picture - but it does contain my trademarked proof that it is me!
Can't want to get it out to shoot. Not as pretty as AJMD429's, and Sixgun said he had a pristine one, so I know it doesn't come close, but it does have character - I love old guns!
Oh man! The Kid is "in" and I am "out", as far as the Model 25 32-20 club is concerned. Mine is in 25-20, which I have come to appreciate. But I still have the Colt pump rifle in 32-20.
OK Kid, you need to shoot this baby and let us all know. I see you have a Lyman tang sight on it.
You will only need to take this rifle on one "woods walk" to find its the nicest woods loafing gun ever invented. Y2K will also fall in love with it.
Nice slippers! You don't get too dirty in your regular chores, do you? Those slippers still look new. They have to be at least 3 years old.----------------------6
You guys are sneaky. You show these incredibly interesting guns and casually note some of us are not members of the club yet!
That is a nice rifle and the 32-20 is a special cartridge IMO. A ton of fun without a bunch of hassle like painful noise and recoil. I really like that tang sight. The sight radius is really something! Look out varmints and tin cans.

I didn't even know there was a club before.

I wish this'n had the nifty cool tang sight.

Big congrats on joining the "club" Y2K. And really extra fine that you got the nifty tang-ceiver sight. That alone adds at least an extra $150 to the value of the rifle.
I'm a little curious here. I own a batch of old pumps, several with the tang-ceiver sight. I own a couple of 32-20's and a couple 25-20's. But I don't own a pump 25- or 32-20. Am I a member of the club or am I just another "also ran"? (I've tried, but been outbid several times over the last few years for a Rem 25 -- just didn't have the staying power and faith that is required).
For those few of you levergunners who haven't examined one of these, I am calling the sight a "tang-ceiver" because although it occupies a tang position it attaches via two screws to the reciever. Both Lyman and Marble's made these for the models 12/121, 14/141/ and the 25. They look identical but I know from experience (bad) that the one made for the 12/121 doesn't quite fit the 14. Does somebody know if the sight for the model 25 would also fit a 12? or a 14? or is it also totally model specific?

That 25 of yours looks mighty clean. The Kids looks pretty clean too.
The Kid's is an earlier version than yours as it has that little thing-a-ma-jig on the receiver where yours does not
Hey Kid, what are the little letters on your barrel....on the left side, near the receiver? That how you can date it.
Earl, I will make you an honorary member of the 25 club as we know in your heart you like these guns, plus, you cast bullets!------6
I'm looking, I'm looking -- what "little thing-a-ma-jig", Six? I can't spot the difference in the receivers -- I'd have swore they were the same.
(If I'm going to be an "honorary 25 club member" I need to be able to tell the early ones from the late ones or you'll drum me out of the club).
And Sixgun, you're the most likely to know: would the tang-ceiver sight off my Model 12 fit on the 25?

You know somethin'? I don't know. Only thing I do know is the earlier versions have it and what it is, I dont know. Hey! I'm half Italian.
Earl,
Look at the receiver and you will see the takedown bolt and next to that is another funny looking thing-a-ma-jig slight protrusion. My newer 25 does not have it and Doc stole the 25 from me that did have it so I can't examine what the differences are.
Winchesters & Colts are my game and there's a million books to learn from. References on Remington pumps are scarce and beings that I only had two of them, I just shot 'em and nothing more.----6

Actually, I go through 1-2 pairs per year. Buy the same ones time after time after the infamous "Christmas Incident" !

Sixgun - I found the date code listing for Remington on-line, but darned if I could see the marking. Took it out of the safe last night, grabbed a flashlight and magnifying glass, and searched harder (I hate that my eyes are getting old!). Found it, and could read it even without the magnifying glass (though I used it to be sure)! It is marked "P P", which translates into June, 1923.
Hot dogs and chile beans....I've got the baby. Made in 1929 and went back to the factory in 1934. It took me a while to figure it out as my rifle has the R X. and an inch away it has a stamp of E C which is stamped differently than the rx.
Either way, this 25-20 is the only 25-20 I have ever had that is a no brainier to load for. It's incredible accurate with a absolute perfect bore and crown.
The rear sight is different from the regular tang/receiver sight I have seen on others. It can be adjusted very finely for elevation and windage.
I am only charging $2 for anyone who wants to come over and touch it. It's well worth the money.
