Reloading trick.

Post by KiwiKev »

I got annoyed with static on my plastic powder funnel when using Trail Boss and Tite Group. Too cheap to buy a brass funnel I lined the inside of the funnel with tin foil. No more static powder goes down smooth.

Did you try wiping it down with an anti-static cloth?

Wiping the inside of the funnel with a dryer sheet should work.
I have rinsed mine with water and dish washing detergent and let it air dry instead of wiping dry.
The detergent residue is conductive & will dissipate static electricity.

I seem to only have static problems with Power Pistol. It wants to cling to the inside of my Lee plastic powder measure even after wiping with a dryer sheet. It weighs consistent charges, but the sides of the hopper will have a lot of flakes stuck to the sides. This happens the same no matter if from the one pound can or the larger 4 pound can. I use a ceramic coffee mug for small batches when I weigh each charge. It sticks to that also.

Dryer antistatic sheets (used ones work ok) are good to stop powder from clinging to plastic parts.
I have the most trouble with Hodgden`s TiteGroup. Love that powder but don`t like the way it clings to the hopper.

I found a small stainless funnel at Swain's in the area where the oil lamps are. Sold for filling the lamps. Works for everything that fits. I use it for getting gatorade powder into the pop bottle... when not filling cases.

Aye, I wonder if it's a Hodgdon "thing"... I noticed that when I was last loading some .223 that my new powder measure had CFE223 clinging to the sides when I dumped it out after finishing up. The measure was brand new... I know that my older ones don't have that issue.

The funnel I use most of the time and have been for many years was made by Herter's. They took the hokum (and static) out of that funnel and it never returned.

Just don't get mixed up and drink your gunpowder, or whose yet try to shoot bullets with Gatorade.

Would Gatorade work as a propellant if you were hunting in Florida?

The anti-static dryer sheets also work great on corn-cob and walnut brass-cleaning media. I keep a box in my reloading area for several used!
