Winchester/Miroku Sight question.

Post by steve817 »

After a lot of research I finally decided on a new sighting option for my 1892 that I picked up last spring.

http://www.skinnersights.com/winchester_26.html

Has anyone in here by any chance used these on a newer 1892 and will it be necessary to change out the front sight?

Thanks in advance.

Are you certain that that sight will fit your 1892?

It is made to fit for the Model 94 Angle Eject, which came pre-drilled for scope mounts. It will fit other 1894/94 models but the receiver needs drilling and tapping.

.

That sight will fit a Model 1892 via D/t'ing one 6-48 hole atop each receiver sidewall - but, as with all Skinner peep sights, a somewhat taller front sight blade will be needed.

I used a Williams 5D-94AE ( meant for the Model 94AE) peep (same base as the Williams FP) on one of my Rossi Model 92's, via the same method - but was able to zero the rifle using the issue height front sight blade because the Williams sight carries the aperture holder/bar behind (and lower) the sight base, ILO a sight that carries the aperture holder atop the base.

Hmmm, I wonder how tall of a front sight I'm gonna end up needing.

They come in the mail pretty quick. Get the rear sight and go shoot it. You can calculate the sight height or you can affix something to the front sight to make it taller. For instance, a piece of white cardboard attached with masking tape could have gradients marked with a pen on the side visible while sighting. Shoot it at the different marks to see which one works.
Kind regards,

If you call Skinner, they will be able to tell/sell you the proper height front sight to use with their peep sight.

They'll need to know the present front sight height, and whether the sight blade is ramp-mounted or installed directly in a bbl dovetail.

The Skinner front sight blades ($15), shown on Skinner's website, are plain/square/black Patridge-style blades.

They have a calculator to help figure out what size to order. Think while I'm at it I will just put one of the fiber optic front sights while I'm doing stuff to it.
