Indiana Length of Residency Requirements

Post by mossbergman »

Hi all,

I recently moved to Indiana a few weeks ago. Are there any requirements that say I have to live here a certain number of days before being allowed to purchase a firearm? One guy at a gun shop told me there was a 90 day waiting period, but a guy at a different gun shop said there was no waiting period - just needed my Indiana license. I've searched everywhere for info about this and haven't found anything. Tried calling the state police and sending a few emails to the NRA but haven't heard back yet. I can't find any laws that say there is a 30/60/90 day waiting period, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place?

Any consensus on this?

Thanks.

I had lived in Indiana nearly 20 years and only recently moved here to New Hampshire. I don't recall ever hearing of a residency waiting period. After you have your Indiana drivers licence how would they know how long you have lived there? Sounds more like a dealer not wanting a new customer to me.

For rifles (long guns) no
For Pistols, you must have proof of residency. Does not matter how long you have lived there, 1 day or 100 years still the same as long as you have proof.

The thing that takes just a little longer is getting your CHL (go for the "Lifetime") and residency requirements for your Hunting License.

But when I moved there I bought a gun almost immediately. New house, new gun... kind of like getting new keys to the locks.

Pretty sure harry is right. If you still have hassles PM me and I'll ask a friend who is a cop AND a FFL. He would know.
