The first serial number for a 30 WCF (.30-30) rifle was 3314 with a date of 5/29/1895, and the first carbine produced in that caliber was 4787 on 6/24/1895.

Does that mean there were only 3,313 94s of any caliber made up until that time?
Most lists indicate many more were manufactured in 1894 than that?

Thanks for your reply

Kevin is right.

The 1894's made before that were in 38-55 and 32-40 as the steel used in these guns was not perfected for high pressure until some time in 1895.-----------6

FWIW, both of those Model 1894's remain unverified as to whether or not they were assembled using 1st Model receivers.

What might be the 1st 30WCF Model 1894 with a verified 1st Model receiver is what's accepted for now as the 1st .30WCF M-1894 (a takedown), SN 5056, sent to the warehouse on 9/4/1895 & shipped the same day.

The last verified 1894 (year) SN for the Model 1894 is AFAIK (so far) a little under SN 1400.
