Been fishing ...

Post by 86er »

... for a week at the Coast with the family and a day on the lake with CRS and LJ. The moon was against us in the salt flats but we still managed a pile of trout and reds. Brandon did most of the catching while Richard and I did a lot of chatting and hunting season planning.

Upon return home we hit the Lake. A mixed bag of Stripers, White Bass, Catfish, and Crappie filled our cooler. About 30 fish in all.

Sounds like a great time, and you have a lot of good eating lined up there. Hope you enjoy the fish as much as Brandon did catching them.

Nice catch! Specks and Wipers are on my bucket list of fishes to catch.

Last night we fried up filets from some sand bass and my 8# hybrid striper and it was all good with some home made cole slaw!

PS Do not be too hard WRT the lack of smiles at dock with fish. We had been on the lake for seven hours in the sun and a 25 mph wind. Plus several runs at high speed (250 hp motor) over waves up to 2 feet had taken its toll.

sigh of relief.
I posted photos of white bass results on a fly fishing board, and the rabid C&R types had the photos removed - I think they're in denial.
Rip dey lips, bro, and enjoy the meal.

My mother's legacy of standing at the dock by the fillet table relishing the carnage is just as valuable as anyone's granddad's fly rod.
Besides, her hush puppies are a food group.

Can't be too hard on you guys about the less than joyous demeanor, 'cause having had those conditions in the past doing the same thing had me looking muy haggard, and ready to get in the shade and/or in a comfy chair or couch under the AC. Looks like a great day was had by all, and that 8 pounder had to be a blast getting it up to the boat. Congrats!

Also, nice speck pic from Brandon. Brings back fond memories for me having spent many really happy trips with my dad on Texas' Gulf coast fishing for specks and landing a good mess of them. Though Dad's favorite "catch and eat" was flounder.
